In my opinion:

It's easy to like Madonna for more reasons than her alma mater.

What Curry did at Purdue? She'd be #1 on my list based on what I know about her—which is limited.

TUSCALOOSA | Shelton State Community College coach Madonna Thompson and Texas Tech coach Kristy Curry have interviewed for the vacant head women’s basketball coaching position at the University of Alabama, The Tuscaloosa News has learned.

Thompson, 39, was a player on Alabama’s 1994 Final Four team and participated in four NCAA Tournament appearances at UA. She has been head coach at Shelton State for 15 years, winning nine Alabama Community College Conference championships — including seven in the last eight years and two in a row.

Shelton State finished the regular season undefeated in 2012-13 and ended with a 33-1 record and made it to the quarterfinal round of the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament.

Curry has been head coach at Texas Tech for the last seven years, leading the Lady Raiders to three straight 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament bids in 2010-11 and last season. She has compiled a 130-98 record at the school. In her previous head coaching stop, Curry led Purdue to seven straight NCAA Tournament appearances and a 179-51 record that included a trip to the national championship game in 2001.

Curry signed a five-year, $3.675 million contract in April of 2011, according to a report by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. The deal runs through the 2015-16 season and guarantees Curry $750,000 in the 2013-14 season.

Wendell Hudson was reassigned last month to an administrative position in the UA athletic department after five years as head coach.
Alabama went 68-87 under Hudson, including a 14-64 record in Southeastern Conference play.

I did not list women's hoops among my favorites in that thread. I was definitely a fan and a follower in teh Rick Moody years. After he left, as we all know, the program went into a decline, first to mediocrity, than to ineptness. It has been at that level for the last 7-8 years. Whomever we hire needs to bring some enthusiasm to the program's supporters. Winning will do that. If the options were to continue at the present level or disband that program, I would say do away with it. Whatever sports we choose to compete in, lets make the program competitive.

Joe, the decline in play began under Moody. It wasn't like it was everyone else's fault. While I agree that after Moody the program went into full-fledged collapse, it all began under Moody. His last 3 seasons were all losing seasons. The 3 seasons prior to that our team was negative in the conference twice and attended the WNIT all 3 years.
