I wonder if he would consider Houston if they come calling. I think it would be a same type job as USM. You got to the same conference in a different division. I think Houston might be a little easier to recruit, because of it's location. Houston and USM are about tit for tat on previous success and notoriety. I would not be surprised if he interviews there as well.

I'd hate to see him jump too early to take a head coaching position. Smart has done an outstanding job for Bama. But he's only been a DC for a couple of years. The guy's only 35 years old.

Where Auburn's assistants probably should have gotten while the gittin' was good last year - I think the opposite is true in Smart's case. Saban has a genuine juggernaut of a program in place and Kirby can still learn here while continuing to beef up his resume.

From the outside looking in, it seems to me that he couldn't go wrong staying put at Bama for now. He has two more years on his contract. In two years, who knows how close CNS will be to considering retirement? Or, Mark Richt for that matter.

I fear the Smart, being a Defensive guy, has a harder road getting into the HC gig than an Offensive guy.

A program like Houston or Southern Miss can more easily gain an atmosphere of of excitement about a team that loses as game by a score of 62-55 than a program loving a game 10-3 -- same margin of victory, both only good on one side of the ball, but Dfense ain't sexy to football-uneducated.

His key to success will be finding an OC who can score 11 points while his Defense holds the opponent -- that is to say, Smart has to bring a well rounded program.
