Their DC "resigned" and they're looking at who is coming in to handle their defense.

They just lost McGee, OC, and Petrino has brought his brought back to Arkansas; Paul.

Special teams coordinator and one of their linebacker coaches, John L. Smith, has left as well.

Question is, how much does he play with the defense.

One thing I love about Saban and his "control freak" mentality is that no matter who comes and goes, it is a Saban team. The OC gets to add/tweak about 30% and do what he wants, but all in all there is not a huge drop off in system/terminology when changes take place. Prime example was Applewhite going to TX and McElwain coming in.

Does Petrino do something similar or is this going to be a start from zero type thing? Either way, that much transition can't be good.

And in just my personal opninion, UArk's defense was about the best this as I've ever seen on a Petrino team.

good topic

Saban hire for the OC will be interesting because you have to score points BAMA has scoring punch for a while its time the offense caught up with our defense.

> When Saban was at lsu did Jimbo run his own offense i think he did

I think Petrino is finally catching on about having a good defense. The issue will be is IF he picks up good D coordinator. If they get somebody like T Grantham or K Smart, they will get real good.
I realize you aren't using either of those coaches as direct examples, but using them to describe potential. That said, I don't see any possible way for UArk to get someone with the experience Grantham or Smart has under their belts.

One thing that will have to happen is the 'Backs recruiting classes need to step up a notch...even within SEC circles. Quite frankly, there are between four and six teams in our conference that recruits better than the staff in Fayetteville has the last few years.

Coach Bobby Petrino says Friday that Haynes is an exceptional recruiter and is familiar with the way the Razorbacks operate. Haynes replaces Willy Robinson, who resigned on Tuesday.
Haynes has spent the past seven seasons with the Buckeyes, where he was the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach this season. The Buckeyes compiled a 66-11 record and won six Big Ten titles during his tenure.
Haynes spent one year in defensive quality control with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he worked with Petrino, who was offensive coordinator at the time.
Arkansas faces Kansas State in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 6. Ohio State meets Florida in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2.

Interesting hire.

I haven't looked to see what kind of reaction Arkansas fans are having on this hire but the first thing that crossed my mind was the Sugar Bowl last year. Ohio State had over 400 yards of offense put on them last year against Arkansas, almost 75% of that through the air.

When has Ohio State and their defense stopped an SEC offense over the last decade?
