šŸˆ Wills is the new DC at Tech

Well not so fast my friends...

Willis Returning to Tuscaloosa to talk with Saban

University of Alabama linebackers coach James Willis left Lubbock, Texas on Wednesday night with an agreement in principle to become the defensive coordinator at Texas Tech.

However, Willis will first sit down and talk with Nick Saban before making a final
decision, which could happen Thursday.

According to Rivals site RedRaidersSports.com, a deal has not been finalized.

Should he depart the Capstone, Willis would be reunited with Tommy Tuberville, for whom he was a linebacker coach for three years at Auburn, which is also his alma mater.

Tuberville has already hired Neal Brown away from Troy to be his offensive coordinator, with the Red Raiders expected to continue running the spread.

Willis, whose title at Alabama is Associate Head Coach/Linebackers, joined Saban's staff a year ago and primarily handled the interior linebackers. His base salary was $235,000, and like every other assistant coach will get a 20 percent bonus for the Tide playing for the national championship.

I'll be honest, I personally think he should take this job,,.without a doubt. It's a promotion and nothing but positives all around for Willis, but maybe Saban thinks he's setting himself up for failure at TT? I seriously doubt anything will come of this, just have to throw it out there.

i think he is leaving, maybe just a sit down with saban to make sure in mind , that he has a made good call--from a friend/coach standpoint or maybe just to tell him one on one i am leaving.......i agree great chance for willis to show his stuff...

I believe Willis does leave but I think he is being professional in sitting down and talking with saban to let him know face to face of his decision. Leave that way and it is really professional and doesn't burn bridges a la Lance Thompson.

Exactly. I doubt Saban would disapprove of any coach moving up the ladder.

Wow, class move by Willis. I'm very impressed with him. He left AU with no harsh words and is leaving his biggest rival with a ring, respect and professionalism. Best wishes to him. :a:
