🧑‍🍳 why is five guys so expensive 😳

Krystal's, eaten there only 2 or 3 times in my life and don't plan on adding to that. Feel like I may as well just buy 12 rolls and put some mustard and onions on them. Makes me think of the "where's the beef " lady when I hear about there or white castle.

I loved them when I was a kid. The bun to meat ratio is certainly a thing, and would normally be a massive turnoff for me (it's why I don't order smash burgers at places) but there's just something about those little things in the steamed buns with the freeze dried onions. Then again, you could get them for .35 or .45 back at the time.

The Alex’s Santa Fe burger at chilis is pretty damn good (really the only thing I like at chilis). My dad likes chilis regular cheese burger, so I take him every so often.

Oh and the Nashville hot fried cheese sticks are a guilty pleasure I partake in.

Chili's really improved their burgers back around the time Saban took over at UA.. they had one with 2 thick slices of bacon on it which was pretty good. A lot of former, and a couple of current, RTB members would meet up at the old (and now gone) Chili's on Skyland (by the old McFarland Mall) after A-Day's and games in the fall. It was a good place to grab a bite that was never really crowded, even with all the fans in town. I haven't been to a Chili's since that one closed many years back.

The one on McFarland was still four for a buck when I was there...crowded at night.

I too could tear up some of those right now. Closest one is an hour away.

Several years ago US Foods sold a pre-made quarter pounder was the meant to be steamed. I didn't really care for the taste (compared to the flat top) but it was juicy.

That's the closest one to me... and that ain't near close enough to go grab a sackful. Wish they still had the one open on my side of the river... if a Checkers* and Captain D's can stay afloat over here, anything should.

*1980's Checkers was legit, but not these days.

Here's my problem. It's in Orangeburg. Aside from the drive, that means I'm close to the Chestnut Grill. We're out of fast food now, but good lord the food at that place. Their homemade dressings/sauces are worth the stop. I think a 12oz strip is still around $13 at lunch...done in a peppercorn.

You can probably get about 12 cheese Krystal's for about the same price as a Five Guys burger and fries. On most days, I'd take the dozen tiny steamed burgers. But, I'd also argue that Five guys sits more on the restaurant side of the aisle, not with the fast food places. It's somewhere in between I guess, but definitely a step up over fast food.

This made me hungry for Krystal's... I like to grab a sackful from there about once a year... and it's been about 3 or 4 since I remember doing it.
I got my sackful of 12 last week when I was in Bama. No Krystals up north just White Castle.

Krystal's were the first bought burgers I ever had. My Dad carried me to one, don't remember where. I think they were either 5 or 10 cents. I was around 4, 5 maybe 6 years old then. Jack's burgers were 15 cents for a very long time. I remember their jingle.

You'll come back, back, back to Jack Jack Jack's, for more, more, more...

I play Mexican Train dominoes with some some folks at a Jack’s on Florence Blvd. on Tuesday nights when I home in Florence. The Big Jack isn’t bad.

My biggest issue with Jacks... their fries suck. They try to season them some, which is good, but there is never enough seasoning on them to help (usually hardly any at all). Also, a lot of time, their buns tastes like they've been sitting out all day long... with that stale taste, not soft and fresh. Their breakfast is fantastic... and a pretty good value for the Deluxe plate.

White Castle doesn't use mustard.
So just an onion roll?

Ate breakfast at Jacks in thomasville, biscuit tasted like somebody soaked a chalk puck in butter and the sausage had the texture of canned oil sausage. Haven't tried any other location because I figured they all sucked. Worse breakfast than taco bell.

My travels indicate that store to store, biscuits can differ in quality to a large degree. Same for Bojangles. They just reopened the Bojangles in Northport under new ownership after closing it for a few months, and the biscuits are much better. The best Bojangles biscuits... McCalla. At least they used to be, it's been a bit since I've stopped there. But they were always a 10/10 for a good while. Both of the Jacks near me do pretty good on the biscuits. They ain't 1985 Hardee's, but they ain't bad. And Chick-fil-A has dramatically improved the quality of their biscuits over the last 10 years.

Pretty much every fast food joint in thomasville sucks even more than the usual suck of a fast food joint. Lucky if you even get your order correct. Church's COB is the only exception.

Chik fil A has for sure. If you could get their chicken on an old school Hardee's biscuit you'd have a good breakfast sandwich.

You do know you can ask for more seasonal salt.
