šŸˆ Why are some fans staying home from SEC football games? SEC plans to ask you.

The ticket prices are too expensive. Also, when we had season tickets, the travel- three or four weeks in a row, every Saturday- was grueling. If I lived closer the situation would obviously be different, but I'm sure others are in my predicament.

I know some who can't afford to go, and others who can, but would rather stay home and watch it and watch all the other games as well, instead of going to the Bama game and missing almost all the others. Personally, I want to go to every game I can. I wish concession prices were more reasonable, and every stadium had better phone service, and they would show scores from other games more... but there's still nothing like being in Bryant-Denny Stadium on a fall Saturday afternoon.

Ticket prices a little maybe... traffic getting out of town is a bit of a deterrent for me.

I used to have that same problem years ago before I lived here... I never leave a game until the end, so I was AWLAYS mired in traffic. I wasn't familiar with Tuscaloosa other than the campus so I took McFarland in and out to the Interstate... took FOREVAH! I just assumed since everyone else was doing it, there must not be another good way out. Well, little did I know, there are other ways. Now if there is a wreck on the Interstate or something then yeah, you're screwed if you are behind it, but the key is to get in front of it. I don't have to go far, only a few miles, but I get home in about the same time as I would in 5 o'clock traffic in the same distance on McFarland these days by taking back roads. Doe has become the master of the backroads and getting back towards McCalla in a timely manner.

BTW, SEC, you can save your money. The biggest answer to your question is winning. If the team is winning, more fans will show up regardless of everything else. People just don't like spending money on losers.

THIS

Porter is right about the traffic as well. My first year of having season tickets, I figured it out. I used to live south of Birmingham in Alabaster/Calera area. I could be home most games about 30 minutes into the post game talk show with Tyler Watts (the one broadcast from Baumhower's). I never leave a game early. EVER!!

I now live in the Inverness/Oak Mt area off Highway 280 and I still go the old route down 82 to Centerville and over to Calera.

I have not been to a game in Tuscaloosa for years bc of living in Ohio but I have attended a few games in other states when the Tide was close. Here are a few reasons I do not go on a regular basis:

1. Bama does not play Ky. on a regular basis in football.

2. Cost- last year my sons bought us tickets to the Bama/UT game in Knoxville. Just the 5 tickets for the game was $500+, not counting gas, food and a motel in Oak Ridge. Since the recession in 2008, many people cannot afford to travel to away games.

3. Opponent- other than the SEC games, the home schedule has not been real good. Who has Bama played at home in the past few years that would be a decent game outside the SEC?

4. Other- sometimes people cannot attend games on Sat. bc of work, it may be only day off in the week for many, family obligations ie; kids having games or activites, etc...

By no means are the items listed above all inclusive of others, they just reflect my opinons.

Off topic a little bit, but I think we should renew the rivalry with Penn State. Went too see us play them in 2010 and the atmosphere was surreal. Replace them with WCU or Georgia Southern, or whichever division 2 opponent and BDS will be rocking every Saturday against them.

As for this, there is nothing like experiencing a gameday in BDS. Last year when I made the trip to the Miss State game, it took the breath away from me, its getting insane (in a good way..)..I don't check my phone often when I'm at a sporting event regardless, but there are people who can't live without it, so the service could be improved. Ticket prices obviously like some of you pointed out. The SEC as a whole could do better at scheduling opponents also. Then add to the fact that everyone has a 50+ inch screen HD TV with beast surround systems that basically gives you the same feel at as if you were in the stadium itself.

I did enjoy the Penn State renewal, but I also enjoy the neutral site games. Splitting a stadium with an opponent (like Michigan, VaTech and Clemson) makes for an exciting game. I'll admit that, after driving so much to Tuscaloosa for games, having them here in Atlanta is a nice respite, too. The GA Dome makes more tickets available to season ticket holders - we qualify for Atlanta games but didn't for the Dallas game against Michigan. Next year against WVU in ATL again will be nice before we head back to Dallas in 2015 for the Wisconsin game.

Back to the original issue, I agree it's about winning. Kentucky is on the ropes with its attendance, and UT is stinking it up.

RTR,

Tim
