šŸ“” Why Alabama offensive line may look much different next season

I don't think Jonah Williams flunked LT. He was coming off of a freshmen campaign that made many feel he was the natural selection to Cam Robinson's position. Maybe we aren't bringing any of this up, but Leatherwood in his own way showed out in the second half of the NC just like Tua. Potential meets reality. In both cases, I don't think there's any going back.

I mentioned this back at the first of the season when we were talking about wide receivers and have alluded to this subject a few times through the season. What you are looking at when you consider Jonah has to be taken into context and that context is all the pieces of the offense didn't flunk out--but at best were a potpourri of different schemes. (Sorry...only word that comes to mind.)

The wide receivers fell into the spread attack type of scheme, QB didn't. It was an offensive line that was out of its element for a few years and was being asked to go to that pro-style, power game. We wanted a run game that was dominating but didn't have the second level blocks from players that weren't offensive linemen. I saw a lot of convoluted talent mixtures...if that makes sense?

You have to take this into account as well. When Jalen was pressured he ducked right. I'm pretty pleased if your left tackle can handle a guy for four or five seconds. Jonah allowed 2.5 sacks this year. He's "cited" as making two mental errors and missing 10 assignments this past season. (bio on rt.com) I can't remember the exact number here...830 snaps on the season...something like that.

I think you're being a little rough on the kid.

First off, how is Jonah after the injury in the Championship game? I don't think I've read one thing about it.
In a walking boot during the NC parade. In conditioning now ...
Secondly, I agree that it will be difficult to keep Leatherwood and Wills off the field. I
By saying that you're also saying one of this years starters won't start next fall.

Womack is built just like the RT's for Saban's scheme...his ideal guy. That's the guy you're sitting. A RT that didn't commit a penalty or allow a sack in the NC game. The staff graded him out at a 90 against Clemson.

Think about that ...

I can simplify it. Leatherwood is going to be so good, he will be on the field next season. Williams, has so far, shown a little flexibility playing T on both sides of the center. It's farfetched for me to think Leatherwood would play any position but tackle. But we asked for this when we pulled all these 5* high school tackles in our great lineman class last season. Some are going to have to play guard and center to get the best 5 on the field. I remember Wills being adamant he was only a tackle during his recruiting cycle. I hope someone can see themselves as a solution in other spots. Maybe we need to bring Barrett Jones in for a pep talk?

Hey, I agree. It's a tough situation to be in as a coach and a player. Ultimately it will be played out on the field and the better prospect will play, atleast I hope that's the case. I just think Wills has a higher upside than Womack. Womack did a lot to make us proud this year, so I'm not trying to slight him at all. Maybe line one up off the line of scrimmage instead of a tight end and let them work as two "right tackles", :p.

I think we all know why Womack is seen as having less "upside" than the others...

But he's going to be a bear to beat out. Especially with all that experience.

Laugh now, but recall they've done that (six offensive linemen, three tackles.)

I believe a lot look at his ranking coming out of high school and find themselves comparing a three star guy against others rankings. I also think a lot don't realize how big the guy is. He doesn't dwarf Mills, but definitely has a bigger wing span and a few more pounds.

When have we done that? I missed those plays.
