NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma solidified its hold on the No. 1 spot in the major polls announced Sunday afternoon. The Sooners had 51 of 65 first-place votes in the AP, 60 of 61 in the Coaches and 106 of 114 in the Harris Poll.
It marked a record 97th week as the No. 1 team in the AP poll overall for the Sooners since the service began in 1936. No other team has been ranked No. 1 more than Oklahoma. Five Big 12 Conference teams joined the Sooners in the poll: Missouri at No. 3, Texas at No. 5, Texas Tech at No. 7, Kansas at No. 16 and Oklahoma State at No. 17. OU battles the Longhorns next Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
