I know a couple of you guys are from that area. Can you let us in on the local buzz?

I've been reading a few of their boards and they really like the Hogs this year. Do you guys see them as a major threat to contend for the west?

If they can muster any sort of defense and provide even reasonable protection for Mallet then I would think they are most certainly a threat to any team in the country. The bigger question is whether they can sustain their level of play and what their back up plan is if Mallet is having an off day or a team is limiting their passing attack. All in all they are a threat to everyone but I doubt a threat on the national stage if that makes sense.

As they were a year ago they will be capable of putting big numbers on the scoreboard. Defensively they may be a bit better than a year ago, but I don't see them being good enough to contend. Their recruiting has been good on the offensive side of the ball, not so good on defense.

can't win in the sec without defense and a ground game.. this has been proven time and time again..

the most high powered offense in sec history was probably florida under spurrior in the mid 90's, BUT they had a great defense and a very solid running game..

I am of the crowd that thinks a strong passing game combined with an effective offensive line, usually produces a running back that can get the job done. If Petrino committs to running the ball every now and again. I think he will. I believe it was Michael Bush that was his running back at Louisville that put up some good numbers in his offense?

But Louisville played in a league that defense didn't exist in. It's critical in the SEC, or these offenses will run you over. Defense puts teams into field position, and in this league, scores points.

Arkansas will be, at best, 8-4, at worst, 5-7.

I could see them vying for the #2 spot in the West...MAYBE. The difference with the Arkansas hype this year and the Ole Miss hype last year...was that last year it was a Houston Nutt coached team. I saw that flop coming from a mile away. lol

Nutt is the perennial spotlight choker. Get over to hogville.net and they have a good contingent that have them contending for the BCSCG.

Arkansas is probably more likely to be in a position to win the west than Ole Miss, but this year just smells of a Houston Nutt coaching miracle. There is no pressure, no expectations, no one thinks they have anything. But recall a couple seasons ago when they had that super good recruiting class? I think that will come into play. Ole Miss could actually win some big games this year. We need to be on our best behaviour when they come to BDS. The West will easily be the better half of the conference.

Man, the east just looks like Florida again. I could actually see them enter the SECCG with only 1 loss again. A rematch with us, who gave them the loss :D. Who's going to beat them? Tennessee? Georgia? Vandy????? Kentucky???? South Carolina is the only likely candidate.

How bad is Tennessee going to be this year?

South Carolina has a good chance at it this year.

As far as Arkansas goes, I think they could win any game they play, doesn't mean they will

"Their year"? Year for what?

National Championship? Rediculous! It takes much more than they've got.

Conference Championship? But for Mallet, they are Miss. State. If gets hurt, they lose every conference game thereafter.

Division Championship? They have to beat both Bama at the beginning of the year and LSU at the end. Those odds are not attractive.

This is a case of self-imposed disappointment in the works. LBS' thinks that they will field an exciting product, and will win some games. Do well enough and Jerry Jones will be Jones'n to get his Hogs out to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl.

First of all, any of you who have been around for awhile know that I hate Arky so I am biased against them more than is probably normal. With that little disclaimer out of the way, their Spring game score was 31-21...White. That was without Mallett, who is injured. What that tells me is they still have no defense.

Ronnie Wingo is apparently being touted as the main RB threat this year (or at least he's the only one I've heard them talk about), and he does look good, but he doesn't appear to have the raw talent or strength of Ingram or Richardson. Arky's line is going to have to improve exponentially by Fall for him to be very effective.

Arky fans are notoriously bad about overstating their chances before the season. As I remember, there was a large contingent who they thought they would be competing with us for the SEC West last year too. I've lived in Arky for the last 12 years now and it's pretty much the same thing every year. They accuse us of being delusional, but they wrote the book. As I have said for the past several years, I'll believe it when I see it.

Arky can have all the offense they want, but without a defense in the SEC you'll get chewed up BIG. I don't see how they do much more than last year. I heard a guy today say they look a lot like us last year... I dang near choked on my soda.. I informed him that we had an outstanding defense and a super running game and that Arky has neither of those, so I don't see how they're anything like we were last year? I also told him that I thought our defense would be better than it was last year because we have better athletes this year than we did last year.

I think Arky is going to disappoint the people predicting them to compete with us for the West and their delusional fans are going to lose their minds.

Completely agree on that. It's a joke the fact that they're considering their team as an image of our last year one, a joke! Ok, Arky is going to be tough to compete because of the nature of their offense, but nothing to be worried over here.
