from the rain that is forecast for Saturday? A power running game (Bama) or the gun slinger offense (Ark). I recall attending a game once where it was pouring the whole time and the bigger defense and bigger running game controlled the game. It wasnt a blow out. I think it ended up like 24-7 or something.

But I have also heard people say that rain is the great equalizer.

Thoughts?

I don't think rain has EVER given a passing game an 'advantage.' QB's have trouble holding onto the wet ball especially throwing an accurate deep ball. Receivers have trouble catching the wet ball, especially one thrown as fast as Mallet slings it sometimes. Also, sometimes a guy like Javy (on returns) or Terry Grant that's a shifty, speedy type of guy can lose his footing easy. This would be the time of game you'd like to hear 'hand off Ingram, hand off Richardrson, hand off Ingram, hand of Upchurch' all day.

Rain can have its advantages to both sides but there are more disadvantages as mentioned earlier when it comes to the passing game. Receivers have the advantage when it comes to making a cut on a route because they know the depth of the break, DBs do not. The greatest equalizer is having the proper cleats. I know that Tank used to have the players pack their cleats and then pack spare cleats in the lock box to go to the stadium. If it gets sloppy, you'll see shoes getting swapped out faster than women trying on shoes at a sale at Belks.

Just as a thought to consider.

That would put a premium on execution.

The one observation that continually came from the Arkansas staff after last weekends game? The inability to execute.

Let it rain. It'll change the figurative "mudhole" into a literal "mudhole."

You're right about that one advantage the receivers have knowing where to cut and the DBs not knowing. I don't know why that slipped my mind, but yea you are definitely right about that.

I am sure that both teams will have the right footwear available for a wet field. The fancy turf that we have now should hold up pretty well, and unlike a few years back it seems to drain pretty well, so I don't expect the footing to be a big issue. A slippery, wet football definitely does not favor a team that throws the ball around a lot. If the monsoons come that should favor us.
