| FTBL Who makes All-American?

Who/if any makes the All-American team from Alabama this year?

Andre Smith is a lock for the 1st team. Caldwell has a good chance of getting on a team, as does Rashad.

Andre and Cody. I think R. Johnson has an outside chance at it, though maybe he deserves it more than some of the others that will likely be considered.

I think Caldwell has a shot at 2nd team, but I just don't see two BAMA Olinemen making the first team at all.

I'm with Porter. Andre is a virtual lock.

Caldwell I see getting some votes, but he's on the cusp. If he gets the nod at a 2nd (do they have 3rd team AA's?) I'd say he can thank Coffee, Ingram and Upchurch because the team is sitting at around 2500 yards rushing on the season.

I don't see Cody getting the nod, at all. He doesn't have the "numbers" that attract these types of votes this year.

Ro, next year. There are some great LB's that are ahead of him (age wise/playing years.)

My question, and it's been a question for several weeks now, is how many we end up getting on the SEC All-Freshman team. I think three is a good possibility with Ingram, Julio and Hightower.

Tangential point, but what about the SEC Newcomer-of-the-Year (I think this is the replacement for Freshman-of-the-Year to include JuCos and transfers)?

Really a tough pick this year.

Julio and AJ Green (UGa) at wideout. Demps (UF) and Ingram at RB. Snead (Miss) at QB. Hightower at LB. Cody at DL. Janoris Jenkins (UF) and Patrick Patterson (LSU) corner.

My bet is on either Julio or Green.

You could pick a pretty good All-SEC Team from just the newcomers alone.

Andre Smith, Antoine Caldwell, Terrence Cody, Rolando McClain, Rashad Johnson, & Javier Arenas all deserve to be All-American and maybe even Glenn Coffee honorable mention.

Julio Jones, Don'ta Hightower, & Mark Ingram deserve Freshmen All-American

Mike Johnson should get some love for all star accolades. Maybe not All American, but at least All SEC.

I agree to an extent with Cody. For all of the impact he's made, the numbers are not great. So with him what is the criteria? Are voters looking at sheer production or impact? Is Cody arguably the best NT in the country, even though the numbers don't reflect it?

I'm not sure what the voters will do. Kinda like the Heisman Trophy. Does it go to the best player in college or the quarterback on the team that won the most games?

The problem, as I see it, is that most of the college defenses are based on a 4-3 scheme so the job a true NT does in a 3-4 isn't understood.

If you put Cody in a 4-3 as a DT instead of a NT the voting changes.

The NFL scouts understand the job a NT like Cody (and in Saban's defense) has done...voters...not so much.

Well said. The AP folks (most of them) are not going to have a clue who he is when the ballots are handed out. The NFL Scouts on the other hand... I think they are already monitoring his facebook status.
