After seeing the football thread, I started thinking about basketball. Before Saban came to town, Bama was never in contention. It seemed they never would be. Then Saban... Could it happen for the basketball team? Grant seems like a great guy. He's battled hard. I wonder if the Tide can ever contend though.

Coach Grant. For one, I do not think this team will be middle of the pack again. Not often do you see a team get 3 of their best players with 4 fouls with 12 minutes to go in the game. Releford, Obasahan, and Algie Key (had 3 fouls) with 12 minutes to go. Secondly, the recruiting class and the incoming transfers. If Grant goes, more than likely, that recruiting class you see, goes too. Thirdly, I know Grant has only one tournament appearance, but take a look at his years here. In his 2nd year, he builds a solid foundation, surpasses everyone's expectations and gets the team to the NIT Championship. 3rd year, in the tournament and beats some good quality teams (Purdue, VCU, Wichita State, Maryland) and loses some tough ones (@ Kentucky in a game we should have won, Georgetown at home on the last second, and the tournament game which we were cheated out of). Last year was tough, but still got us to 21 wins for the 3rd straight year despite a limited roster.

I know as fans, we like to be in that "win now" and we have been very patient with Grant. I'd just like for us to be more patient with him and see what he can do this year and next. I'm not making excuses for him whatsoever, limited roster or bad development, he needs to produce soon.

Watching Georgetown and Oregon, the announcer said at halftime that games averaged 36 fouls last season. At the half OU and GU had 28. The announcers made a prediction that there would be MANY more fouls called this season. It seemed like SEC games were foul-fests anyway. I'm beginning to think maybe Bama ought to dress out a few more players. It might win a game for them if everyone on both teams foul out.

Yep, new rules are causing it. You saw Obasahan called for a foul cause he went for the ball and barely touched the OU player. OU guy got called for a hack when he blocked all of the ball. I hate it.

Probably Grant due to this recruiting class. If we really really tank, then he could be gone, but I think we'll be a fringe NCAA Tourney team again. I don't see him being canned if he makes the NIT. If it were up to me, NCAA or bust.
