🏈 Who Carries the Ball Against the Mocs?

It Takes Eleven

If things go well Saturday, I'm wondering who might get significant carries running the ball. Who is available that wouldn't jeopardize a redshirt? Trent should get his carries. Upchurch, if healthy, should figure into the mix, but who else? Is Matchett hurt? He RS last year but has he seen action at all this year? Goode had a hyperextended knee earlier this year - is he healthy? I know Griffin's out. Eddie Lacy hasn't seen action that I can tell - is he slated for a RS?

Tim

I would imagine it'll just be Ingram, Richardson, Upchurch, and Grant if he's healthy enough. If Goode is healthy again I'm sure he could get some touches if there is a big lead.

Matchett is now on a medical so we won't be seeing him. Yesterday, Grant was back on the stationary bike and wearing a black jersey. So, I have my doubts we'll see him.

Everyone else is practicing as normal.

I am like you guys in that I think Saban gives Ingram 12-15 carries to get his numbers, then it's a steady diet of Richardson, followed by Upchurch all day. We might even see Star Jackson run some option, with him keeping the ball.

Anyone else think that we might actually have very few offensive plays this week? I mean, somewhere in the 50-55 range? It's not going to take much wildcat to hang 50 on the mocs.

I don't think Saban cares about Ingram getting his numbers. If BAMA can get up on UTC very early by a couple scores, then I could see Ingram finishing the game with less than 5 or 6 carries. #22 isn't needed in this game, and there is no sense risking injury to him... and with a short week looming to prepare against auburn, he sure as heck doesn't need his normal workload. I hope to see a Trent Richardson/Roy Upchurch show... and I think we will... with Goode finishing things off late.

As for the Heisman, it won't be won or lost on a game against UTC. The auburn and UF games will be the statement games for Ingram to close out the season.

I think you are right about Ingram's Heisman status, Porter. But it seems Bama players have never had that edge that has pushed less worthy players into the Heisman instead. I don't think anyone meant as much to their team in 99 as Alexander did, but because he got hurt late in the year and didn't play as much, he got shafted in favor of Dayne, who got most of his yards against lesser defenses.

I stick with the trickle down.
