šŸˆ Where is the Tide with # of Scholarships for this season?

Seems there is only about a month left to clear ANY needed spots for the incoming scholarship players. And usually after Spring the players get the "talk" with the coaching staff where they are told what they need to do and the coaching staff's assessment of their probable success or NOT. It does seem that transfers usually start surfacing between Spring and End of term. Graduation was Saturday and there is no news?

Any ideas on who might look for success elsewhere?
I only have a rough estimate, but I project about 6 over the limit when the new guys move in; what say you?

1 Walker Jones Graduated on Saturday, he was not listed on the Spring roster... seems maybe he has moved on?
2 J.C. Hassenauer??? Junior and doesn't seem to be in the 2 deep?
3 Josh Casher ??? Redshirt Soph as J.C.
4 David Cornwell??? Redshirt Soph (is this the time he gets frustrated?)
5 Ronnie Clark??? Redshirt Soph (too many pos changes, too many injuries?)
6 Johnny Dwight??? Redshirt Soph ( not sure I know enough to comment )
7 Brandon Greene Graduated in Dec. too many position switches? Contributor this year? or...

Out of numbers two through seven, I don't see any of those guys leaving this summer. I could be wrong, but if I am I doubt anyone, from anywhere, would wonder if it's a good move for the player.

2- backup
3- likely 7th man off the bench in either guard role
4- backup
5- starter for A-day for Crimson, will contribute A LOT
6- still in development ...
7- starter in our ACE set.

Pretty much agree with Terry...

-Walker Jones is definitely gone

-Hass is the backup OC, and if RP leaves after this year, could be in line to start the rest of his career

-Casher still has a chance.. But at his size Guard might be a stretch, and it looks like Hass beat him out at Center. This could be one to watch, but my guess is he leaves after next season

-Cornwell is my best guess at the QB who leaves this summer (I'd prefer Bateman instead). Seems like the staff has given every QB some hope though... But it seems unlikely he beats out the others.

-Johnny Dwight moved back to DL and could def see playing time this year. He's more physically ready than the incoming freshman and there is a need, especially with the bigger rotation last year.

-Ronnie Clark has had some tough luck... Guys usually don't leave while their rehabbing, but I could see him leaving after next season

-Greene has played legit snaps as the blocking tight end. He could also be the emergency Tackle on either side. Too late for him to transfer IMO.

There's a good chance either some of these guys or some others could leave. I would also keep an eye on Falkins or Keif, and maybe Dallas Warmack, or a long shot is Christian Miller who's just too talented to not be playing somewhere. Who knows?

He's more physically ready than the incoming freshman
I would HOPE so. :poke2:

In all seriousness, that matches every report out there. He's improved physically over his time in Tuscaloosa.

With Dwight, his 'playing motor' spins as much as what I think about him. When he committed, I thought he'd be one of the guys to flip. When I was specifically watching the DL (Dwight and Frazier) it seemed like they aren't quite where they need to be. The team isn't getting "all they can be, all the time" from either.

@rolltide66 I ran through this the other night and came up with 90 as well. Now, 89.

One thing jumped out at me. There's just as many players with four years of eligibility left as there are Juniors and Seniors—34.

Missing Spring Practice - Status going forward - with these recurring injuries would these guys be better served taking a medical?
-- WR Raheem Falkins ("a leg issue") a member of 2013 recruiting class
  • Falkins, a reserve receiver, missed the entire 2015 season with multiple injuries.
  • Falkins fractured a bone in his leg this summer, required surgery.(8/2015 report)
  • Yet to catch a pass in 3 years, did not play in 20015, played in 8 games in 2014
-- TE Dakota Ball ("a foot issue") a member of 2012 recruiting class
  • 9/2013 redshirt freshman defensive lineman Dakota Ball broke his foot in practice Tuesday and will likely be sidelined for a couple of months.
  • 9/2013 missed a few weeks during preseason camp after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.
  • 2016 Dakota Ball has also primarily been used as a blocking tight end and will likely continue in that role in his final season in Tuscaloosa

We are on the same page

Last season he worked with the tight ends but as soon as his foot healed he was back with the defensive lineman. Saban said after A-day that Ball would have been part of the two-deep if he'd played that Saturday.

with today's transfer of Shawn Burgess-Becker and Non-Qual of K. Jones "Hulk" we should be at 87. Two more decisions to be made.
The staff has been actively contacting kids like Tu'ikolovatu out of PAC territory as well as a new one that's jumped on the radar as of late ... a DE/LB, Rod Jones, out of CCSF. Jones will be on campus tomorrow.

... "Hulk" Jones headed to JUCO or prep school ...

So, out of the initials, there's one more spot open IF he does miss qualifying.

One thing we have no clue on his how many are looking at a grey-shirt. It could be as few as a couple or as many as four.

It all depends on how many more are added to this class. I know it's interesting trying to follow the numbers. I also know without a baseline, it's impossible. And, at this point, there is no baseline. This 2016 class isn't done yet unless the staff misses on the kids they are after.

Collectively, we need to have our fingers crossed they don't miss. We need some more bodies on the DL—it's close to a must have in my opinion.

Found a mistake in my Senior class. I confused the current Brandon Moore (2012) with the former Brandon Moore (2009) and was charging a Scholly to a walk on. So unless I find another mistake, I am at 86 after the last moves.

Rolltide66 - You're a beast. Awesome work.

A few guys come to mind that would be up for a transfer or maybe "persuaded to look elsewhere":
-Raheem Falkins
-Josh Casher
-David Cornwell
-Hootie Jones (wouldn't have said that before the arrest)

The other way to have a free scholarship is if Tony Brown is cut loose. Still have no idea what is going on with that ordeal, but it feels optimistic after his track participation.

What about grey shirts? Or is that too late? I was thinking TE Irvin Smith could be a candidate.

Time sure flies. I can't believe that Mo Smith and Raheem Falkins are seniors. Poor Falkins, somehow avoided a red shirt without ever being a legit participant. Injuries haven't helped.

And BTW - Could not be more excited about these young DB's. Almost forgot that we stole Knott from Mississippi, Mayden from Texas, and Shy Carter from Louisiana. Throw in Sheffield as a RS freshman and that is an amazingly talented group. Looks like Deionte Thompson is back at safety as well, with another 20 lbs of muscle.

NONE of the ones I thought might be good candidates for transfer or medicals, the Grad Transfer of Maurice Smith does a couple of things, brings the number to 85 and gives him an opportunity to take his Championship rings and Probably Start for another team. Greatly enhancing his potential draft prospects. Godspeed, sir!
