While it looks funky....
At least there are returns instead of every kick going into end zone

If the kickoff doesn't make it past the return team's 20-yard line, then the ball is considered out of bounds and the return team will get possession at its own 40-yard line (or 25 yards from the spot of the kick).

But is it not the end of the onside kick?
Maybe they should give kicking team. The option of taking ball at own 25 ...and being 4th n 10. Or something. I think usfl does something like that

A fault of mine is I generally really don't like a lot of change, especially when it's something that was deep rooted and didn't really need to be changed (IMO). But, as I'm getting older, and more and more stuff is changing... especially in the world of sports... I'm trying to be more open about change, and accepting of it. And what I've found to this point, in the limited amount of viewing, the new kick off rule isn't too bad. I fussed about MLB going to a pitch clock, and it worked out pretty well. I also fussed about the universal DH... and while I still enjoy the strategy that goes with pitchers having to hit, the DH thing hasn't hampered my enjoyment of the game. So, I'm trying to be more flexible.... LOL

Funny if it doesn't get to the 20 yard line it treaty like and outer bound kick, ball will be placed at the 40.

Agree with DH. And with pitch count. Gets game moving forward. Some baseball pitchers reall bogged game down. What i didn't like was putting ..starting..runner at second in extra inning game. Should have to hit to get there
