🧑‍🍳 What's your favorite "cheat code / hack" for restaurants and fast food places? (And no, a drink with no ice doesn't count, though it should.)

(...and yes, that's one thing that does 'entertain' me. Why do people get so much ice when the syrup and carbonated water are kept cold?)

Restaurant hacks?

The cheeseburger thread drew me to Wendy's. I'm not a guy that orders fries with my burger/sandwich. Fries get too cold, too quickly. Their baked potato on the other hand? I've substituted fries for the potato for as long as I can remember.

Good thread, but nothing extraordinary comes to mind for me. I've mentioned this before I think, but I'll occasionally have Jacks or Bojangles add their sausage gravy to a steak, chicken, or pork chop biscuit.

I order by app whenever possible and that will allow for very easy customizations at most places, without relying on someone at the register to put the order in right (they still have to fill the order correctly, but at least you're eliminating 1 of the middle people). But if I'm at Wendy's and order in the app, I'll sometimes change up the condiments on the burger. Or if I'm at a chicken tender place, I'll dump the slaw and add an extra tender or piece of texas toast. Occasionally (like once a year), at Chickfila, I'll ask for the ice cream in a cup over a warm brownie or chocolate chip cookie (which they had on their menu for a short time).

My sister-in-law was working as the cook at a local restaurant. She and the owner were good friend. One day the owner had to go somewhere and my sister-in-law asks me to come and cook for her. Well the very first thing was a Jumbo Cheeseburger, so I started looking for the biggest hamburger patty. She told me to use the regular burger and the bigger bun. Then it got me to thinking how many time I order the Jumbo from her my on sister-in-law! :ROFLMAO:

American cheese and lettuce on a spicy chicken biscuit at Chick-fil-A

About the only thing I eat American cheese on

Lettuce on a biscuit? Ain't heard of that one before...
I can see the place but I can't place the name. I think the place may have closed following the BLM riots when they tore some stuff up downtown. This place had an SLT; smoked sausage, lettuce, tomato, served with a homemade mayo (bacon, peppercorn flavor) served over a buttermilk biscuit.

Ordering value menu items instead of overpriced combos..getting the small or regular drink and refilling it multiple times..

At Wendy’s I usually order a cup of chilli and two baked potatoes with cheese and sour cream… Then I pour the chilli into the two potatoes…GREAT LUNCH When I don’t want a big burger..

<I fear this reply may be like recommending Dreamland to someone ... a location that's other than the original, two decades ago.)

The guy who lives behind me just said it was Rodney Scott's place. That may be true. I tagged you guys because I know he's opened up a place in B-ham and in Trussville. Tim, there's one in ATL now as well.

I can't speak for those locations. I can say his place downtown has some damn good BBQ, chicken, etc. I understand he's world renowned as a pit master. If their food is as good for you locally as it is here...it's a HIGH recommendation!

(I like Rodney's sauce. Kathy's (on the menu) is pretty good. I haven't tried their BAMA 16!)

I've been to the Charleston spot, very good. I really like Lewis, though.

AH! Cheat code!! You can sit at the bar there and avoid the lines. It's a limited menu (versus the tables) with sandwiches and sides.

Hell of a turkey sandwich!

On your list: There's a place around the corner I've been pointed to: Heavy's BarBurger. It was the fried chicken the guy mentioned. I understand they soak it in a saltwater/sugar brine and then marinated in buttermilk. Dunno. It's on the list the next time I'm down there.

Me and my wife do this regularly at Stanfield's in Sheffield when they tell us the wait is going to be 30+ minutes. It's the full menu as well, plus you're at the bar facing all the TVs. Win-win situation, same with the Longhorn's/Texas Roadhouse in Florence.
