Rick, usually, that's not a good thing when a kicker becomes a tackler. When that happens, the PAT or field goal has been blocked or the field goal is short. The kicker then becomes has to play defense, meaning he now has to make an attempt to tackle the ball carrier.

Personally, I like it on kick offs when the kicker sprints down the field and makes a tackle. What I do not like is when the kicker is the last line of defense and big yards are given up. The kickers should do a little form tackling from time to time but hopefully, they never have to turn into a defender.

Foster was also a good linebacker in high school, pretty bulked up, too.
I think that is what got him he he got here. I think he worked out too much and lost any flexibility that he once had. He also spent that first year trying to make all the tackles on each KO, which likely messed with his followthru.

I am trying to remember but did we use Bearden much on kickoffs? I know he was our punter and a damned tough one too, recall him punting and then limping down the field to try and make the tackles, after he messed up one leg. I think he played LB and TE in HS, along with being the punter.

Cade Foster I wouldnt really count because most kickers just hang back and play "safety" on kickoff but he went down actively going for tackles (and made some pretty wicked hits too).

Like someone else said though, Lane Bearden was a beast too. Anybody that can play damn near an entire season with a torn ACL, I dont care what position you play, is a monster.

I thought Bearden was a WR in HS, but I may be wrong. He may have handled some KO duties, can't remember.
