🏈 What did you folks think about the refs?

They had a bad day but what really bothered me was the lack of time for replay officials. Early on there were several big plays I thought deserved time to review but the HUNH doesn't allow the, much time between snaps.

And the out of bounds call was an out of bounds catch (incomplete by rule). Not that it matters now ;)

The targeting flag is the one that got me... That was the one I came unhinged for... There is literally nothing else HaHa can do in a situation like that other than letting the receiver simply make the catch... He was going FOR THE BALL to the point where he actually touched the ball before the receiver did AND there was no helmet contact... At least the review was able to let him stay in the game because he wasnt targeting... but that maybe makes it worse... How can you ADMIT that he didn't target the receiver yet the penalty still stands? The rule is so awful.

I felt they were pretty pathetic. The whole targeting ejection bit with Clinton-Dix was out of this world inexcusable. LUCKILY they made the rule to replay all of those ejection calls, and then you see when he's having to explain that even the pass interference call was bogus. I understand you can't catch them all, and will miss some, that's human nature, but atleast be sure about the ones you do call and don't guess. I'm glad our boys were able to overcome the "home cooking" that appeared to be in order and continued to play hard.

That is the BEST SEC crew also and should be evidence for how absolutely pathetic the conference's officials are. By far the worst game I've seen for Ritter (pretty sure that is the head man's name). If you flipped over and watched the Oregon game though, believe it or not, it was probably as bad or worse. Oregon holds on every single play, blatant and more than one player doing so.

I thought they sucked, lots of missed holds, the out of bounds play really ticked me off. Manziel had a hold of a facemask on the horse collar, they both should of been called. I also didnt think the push off from the A&M guy was really that bad, but thats just me.

They definitely left alot to be desired. The targeting call, catch out of bounds (even thouh he was forced out), lack of holding calls on A&M, 1 of Fulton PIs (WR pushed off and Fulton grabbed), the facemask/horse collar play.
I will say this and it happens all of the time at ALL levels. The official that is stationed to your sideline will have the ENTIRE sideline in his ear before and during the game. 9 times out of 10, there will be a call that goes their way. When I coached HS ball, we would talk to the SJ or FJ before the game and would say things like, "watch their tackles when they lineup, they are very close to being in the backfield, or they had 5-6 holding calls last week, look for their hands, etc".

I know that each performance is supposed to be reviewed. Bug eye Ritter's crew not only needs a stern review, they need a kick in the :chat2_mooning: from the SEC office. Everything that you guys have stated has been exactly right. Furthermore, Arie's first procedure penalty...Hell! Even Verne said that was nitpicky. On two of their big plays, Pagen was all but tackled, once with the ref looking right at the stinkin' play.

Maybe tamu decided the officials' room didn't need any A/C either.

Will we have to deal with this same officiating crew again? Lord i hope not.

Oh hell yeah we'll have Ritter again. We've got no choice. Unless something has changed, the last time I looked over the officiating crews of the SEC there were two that couldn't call Bama games. It so happens those two crews are considered to be two of the better crews in the SEC.

Looked about like SEC officials...glad we didn't get the crew from the TCU @ Texas Tech game.

What are you saying? The Big12, with more refs on the field than the SEC, screwed up just as badly or worse yesterday?

I don't believe there is a rule in place about an offensive player grabbing the face mask in situations like JM with that stiff-arm.

Y'all picked up most of the calls that infuriated me. Hard to say they weren't biased when there were twice as many calls against us as against them. They also missed one of our guys getting horsecollared. Same crew as last year. What did we expect.

Rule (A.R. 9-1-2 xv, NCAA football rules) states that “no player shall twist, turn or pull the face mask or any helmet opening of an opponent.

I didn't see him "twist, turn, or pull..."

What I saw was a stiff-arm that was on the face mask and as I recall there isn't anything about a "hands to the face" type rule covering a QB versus defender.

And, if I recall correctly, it seems GD made a reference to that fact just after that play.

Never been a big fan of the SEC officials, they've treated us pretty well the last few years, but I've witnessed them make some pretty bad calls in the SEC - BUT they weren't as bad as the guys who called the TCU @ Texas Tech game.

Still trying to watch all the game on TV to see some of the calls, was really really hard watching at the game, they showed a single replay of all calls on that tiny screen.

The Clinton-Dix call was horrible, as were a few others. The JM one looked alot like he grabbed his mask right before the horse collar. I called it from the stands that looked like a facemask prior to the call.
