My expectations are quite honestly to have 20+ wins every year, be in the NCAA tourney each year with runs to the Sweet 16 with a occasional run to the Elite 8. I don't expect National Titles in basketball like we have grown so accustomed to in football. What are yours?

I think we could easily win 20 games each year. My tournament expectations are a level below yours as I consider the Sweet 16 a nice placement, and an Elite 8 would just be out of this world. It's tough getting past the first two games as a low seed with all of the great teams you play out of the gate. I mean, shoot, we got Villafreakingnova second game last season. What a crappy draw that was.

THIS exactly. I was talking to a workmate yesterday and I made this very statement, almost verbatim. If we pay a coach top 15 pay.....then we should at least be in the top 20 of basketball year in and year out.

20+ win seasons likely get us in a higher seed though and we would miss those buzzsaw teams like Nova. When a say an occasional run to the Elite 8, I mean that 1 every 5-6 years, we have a legit shot of getting there. Wimp Sanderson got us to the Sweet 16 5 times in 7 years. It can be done here.

C. M. Newton put up 3 consecutive SEC Basketball Championship banners. In the same league that Kentucky resides. Think about it That is equivalent to Kentucky putting up 3 consecutive SEC Football Championship banners. In the same league that Alabama resides.

CFB as we know it probably will cease to exist before Kentucky puts up a total of 3 SEC Football Championship banners, much less 3 consecutive. When it becomes basketball on grass they may accomplish that feat.

I would trade all of the football titles for a basketball title and baseball title. Maybe even a Final Four and a CWS title.

I don't have to be that greedy. I do think that baseball should be back in the tourney every year, be a consistent face in the Super Regionals and make it out to Omaha every 5-6 years. Too proud a program not to be. Going to take time though after the Goofy Goff experiment! Damn guy about killed the program in such a short time.

My expectations? A disciplined, fundamentally sound team that plays smart on both ends of the court and ready to give 100% effort every time they step on the court. A team that wins the games they are supposed to win, and plays the elite teams hard enough to let them know they have been a hell of a fight. And protects their home court against any and all comers. Let the W/L total fall where they may.

Reaching the NCAA 3 out of 5 years and the NIT the other two would be good. Making the sweet 16 one of those 3 years would be tops. Seems like only yesterday when Nick's daughter said Tom Izzo was coming to Bama as the coach...…….. that would have been assume. I believe Tom gets more out of less than most any BB HC going.

  • 100% graduation rate
  • Preferably zero one and dones
  • Players who are developed both physically and mentally by the coaching staff
  • A team that gives effort in every game
  • Limit consecutive loses to 1
  • >80% FT as a team
  • Limit turnovers
  • A team that can be coached hard when needed and a coach that will coach them hard
  • A coach that has the respect of his players

For Nick to take over as head coach and become the first college coach ever to win national championships in both football and basketball in the same season

Nick would cleanout the coaching staff on that side of the building for sure and 80% of the players on that roster
unlike some/several of the most talented players on the football team when CNS flew in; I don’t have any issues with this basketball team other than talent and direction. IMO, Avery’s kids try hard but are missing a combination of talent/direction/development.

CAJ has been nothing but an asset to our university and this team other than being a good coach. Avery Shula

In another thread I discussed this with TerrP. Do not recall everything but in general it was this.

  1. Make tournament 9 out of 10 years ( Terry pointed out not even Kentucky has done this so I could negotiate down to something more practical like 7 out of 10.)
  2. Consistently in the top 25
  3. Win 75% of SEC games each season.
  4. Top 3 in SEC.

Do not recall if I said anything about success in the tournament but I think making it to sweet 16 similar to Wimp, elite 8 occasionally and at least a final 4 appearance in a decade or two.
