Definitely something I've questioned for a few years now... Is the radio show discussion about the locker room dynamics to blame?? Seriously, what have they got to lose, its not like Sanchez has been tearing it up - he's barely been a game manager from the games I've watched.
What about McElroy at QB for the Jets?
Where have you gone, Greg McElroy?
The former Alabama star quarterback is an afterthought in the Mark Sanchez-Tim Tebow debate surrounding the New York Jetsā starting quarterback job. McElroy is the guy in the office everybody likes and respects, but who likely wonāt get a chance at promotion because the bosses have pigeonholed him as unexciting.
Iāll tell you whatās unexciting: A team that canāt move the football, so it transforms itself into a circus by pitting two mediocre quarterbacks against each other in a high-stakes public opinion battle, and then discovers neither is the answer.
So why not McElroy? All this talk about starting Tebow is ludicrous. Rex Ryan and the Jets apparently are considering benching Sanchez and handing the ball to Tebow ā someone who has proved he canāt pass the football at an NFL level ā while a smart and efficient leader stands on the sidelines in a baseball cap?
Why not give McElroy a chance? Are the Jets afraid theyāll be ridiculed? Iām afraid that ship ā no wait, that fleet ā has sailed. Are they worried McElroy wonāt be able to get rid of the ball fast enough and find his targets? After seeing what Sanchez has done this year, I think āWhat have we got to lose?ā should be the message of the day.
I have no idea if McElroy is the long-term answer or not. I do know that he showed glimpses of promise in the preseason, and at this point, thatās enough to go on if Iām running the Jets.
There definitely is a quarterback controversy surrounding the Jets. But it has to do with the player nobody talks about.
