Think about what it was like after the SECCG last season...or the BCS game. It was a fun time to be a Bama fan...

I've enjoyed some of the runs of our GymTide squad...our softball team, baseball...hell, I'm old enough to remember some really good basketball teams, etc.

However, the teams I'm talking about today are not from the SE, but from the NE.

How sweet do you think it is right now to be UCONN fan? Their basketball team (mens) beats two highly ranked teams and jumps from being un-ranked to now #7 in the nation.

Women's basketball on what...85 game winning streak with a GOOD chance of breaking the all time record...

And...their 1st BCS bowl...

Success breeds success...it just happens.

I know what you mean Terry. I actually think that their women's team is up to like 87 or 88 right now. Success does breed success. When I coached high school ball, you could tell what kind of overall school year you would have by your football program.

Terry, I'm not trying to be sarcastic when I ask this question, but I think it's relevant: Is your topic regarding success breeding success aimed at the job being done for the mens and womens basketball teams at Alabama? If so, I whole-heartedly agree. Why those two programs cannot have some measure of success (whatever measure you want to use) is a bit of a mystery. I feel like we probably don't take any athletic program as seriously as we do football, which is probably understating the obvious. Is it a poor reflection on us as an institution or what? Does it effect recruiting negatively in those area? Basketball may never be as big in Alabama, but basketball is quite popular in several states very near here, and I have to think that there is enough talent just in this state alone, that Bama and Auburn could have tournament teams every year.

Naturally, fans in this state pretty much don't care when both of the football teams are performing so highly. But if you don't think basketball can work in this state, take a short trip to Birmingham some night for a UAB game....

The Huskies have long been a power in men's and women's hoops. Congrats to them for their achievements on the gridiron. I won't be surprised if Edsall's name shows up in coaching searches. They've only had a program for what... ten years?

You're right Joe! 10 years is all that Edsall and UCONN have been playing football with the BIG BOYS.
I know that our men's program is struggling right now but it seems that Coach Hudson has got some good momentum going with the women's team. I was there when Coach Sanderson had some really good teams and Coach Moody had good teams as well and the football was good but not great by our fans' standards.

This has been one of the worst football seasons (go ahead and foreshadow hoops in there also) ever. 9-3 doesnt sound bad but under the circumstances its awful.
Then pull for the Barn or Oregon or whomever else you think is so superior to Bama.....Jesus no wonder so few coaches are willing to put up with our "fans" bullshite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have got to be kidding me!! Worst ever??!!!! Replacing 9 starters off of the defense and other key contributors, plus 2 O-linemen, and both kickers with talented but inexperienced kids leads to losses. I believe it was Coach Bryant that said that for "ever so many young ones you played, equaled a loss!" I guess that is why fan is short for "fanatic". Some people are simply dillusional!!

Bama losing 3 games to teams with less talent......blowing a 24 point lead at home to Barn.....Barn on the way to the national championship..

Yeah, I stand firmly in that this is one of the worst football seasons ever

I'm frustrated w/ the Iron Bowl too & somewhat agitated w/ the other loses but this wasn't the worst season ever. Nor am I willing to say that it was a bad season...

IMHO, the 2000 season was the biggest bust ever. We had a ton of talent too but we got our rear end handed to us plenty of times (remember that loss to Southern Miss?). We lost to AU too & they were nowhere close to this professional paid team they are fielding now.

I have to agree with you Gecko. The 2000 season was one filled with so much promise and hopes of a run at a NC.

Now Koz, I too am disappointed that we didn't go undefeated. I did think we would drop 1 game for sure though. SC was a perfect storm and youth and inexperience caused the meltdown in Baton Rouge. I still think some shoddy play calling in the 2nd half let the Barn game get away from us. WORST EVER though????!!!!!!

I dont think you guys are factoring in that BARN is going to (win) the NC!!! and we had that in our control to stop with a 24 pt lead at home.

I gave a pass to the USCe game as its just one of those things that happen. We should be able to beat the NE Patriots with a 24 point lead in Bryant Denny.

The only bright spot in the season is that we did choke against LSU and the BARN game wasnt a defacto NC playin game.

As for the Barn winning the NC, I think they will have alot of problems with Oregon. I see Oregon using their speed to run sideline to sideline to wear down the Barn's front seven. While they do have some depth, they don't have a ton of depth. Defensively, I think Oregon utilizes their speed advantage to blitz and run by the big O-line that the barn possesses. The Ducks can throw it as well. They have talented receivers to go with their backs. I think that the Ducks will win this one to be honest.
