šŸ“” Western Illinois shows a big downside to the early signing period

If you believe that's what they're being told from day 1. But it's not.

Do you really think their initial offer is: "We are offering you a scholarship! But you may or may not be able to commit depending on the people we have in front of you". Of course it's not. lol
You are terribly mistaken here. I know how this works because I've personally spoken to players and their parents and have been told such. And, that's not including some of the friends I've had since the days recruiting started being covered on the 'net.

I don't throw bullshit out there just to have something to throw out there.
If there is an earlier signing day and the staff is iffy on a kid that wants to sign - They aren't going to let him. At that point he has 6 weeks to figure it out with 10 spots left at XYZ school, instead of 1 week and rushed trip to Miss St. or 1 day and he's signing at Arkansas.

No, that's simply not the case. There is no contact between schools and players during the dead period. How are they able to make a better decision on schools when they can't contact them or visit them?

I've had about 60 kids signed somewhere to play college basketball. Never one time was an offer like that made... What kid is going to choose a school that sits them down for a "maybe" offer over a legitimate "WE WANT YOU" offer? That's one hellova way to sell your program! That would be funny though.

"There is no contact between schools and players during the dead period". No kidding. Just to get this straight so, what are the exact dates you're referring to?

(c) November 26, 2017, through February 3, 2018 [except for (1) through (4) below]: Six (6) in-person, off-campus contacts per prospective student-athlete shall be permitted during this time period with not more than one permitted in any one calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) or partial calendar week. Contact Period (1) December 17, 2017: Quiet Period (2) December 18, 2017, through January 11, 2018: [applicable to all prospective student-athletes (see Bylaw 13.02.5.5.2)]: (3) January 5 – 7, 2018, for National Service Academies:

Unless I'm reading this wrong, pretty much aside from Dec 18th - Jan 11, they have from Nov 26th to early Feb. the coaches are allowed in home visits. How are they able to make better decisions when they get 6 in home visits from this time? Um... You don't really need me to answer that.

Apples and Oranges, stalker. I can't begin to tell you how many public, published reports on recruits have stated "I've received an offer but haven't talked to Saban as of yet."

I'm not saying you've not experienced this. I am saying the recruiting in basketball and football are two completely different things. There are hundreds of offers that go out each season in football. Very, very few of them committable when they are offered. The Bama committable offers have been based on camp performances for years with few exceptions.

Offers for 2018 number in the 100's for Bama.

Alabama 2018 Football Offers for one site to reference.

JT Daniels is a 5 star QB according to 247 but I guaran-damn-tee you Bama's offer was contingent on camp. It's been Saban's MO since his days in Baton Rouge.

I can agree with all that.

And really believe you're making my point for me. That is the definition of a non-offer "offer". Right? It's a farce. The problem is many 17 yr old kids believe the assistant coach when he says the words "We are offering you a scholarship". And the staff wants them to believe it otherwise they wouldn't be putting in in their head, right? The staff wants to have a board full of back up plans because there's no telling what will happen down the road.

Ultimately, the point is that no matter what an early signing day forces the staff to either accept a kids commitment/signature or not accept it earlier in the process (if the kid wants to use that date. They don't HAVE to). Don't know why you have such a hard time with that premise. But I'll 10000% guarantee you there were kids that wanted to announce for Alabama a few days ago, but when they got in touch with the staff last, were told to hold off.

All I'm saying is it's much better to have that happen now, with multiple in home visits left and 6 weeks to figure it out, then on Feb X. I know for Saban and many coaches that is inconvenient, but for the recruits that is a good thing. And this happens at all levels... Not just the highest.

You're having a hellova time seeing anything that's not directly beneficial to Alabama football. Which is fine... But there are absolutely positives here for kids to have an extra signing day.

It is certainly a qualified offer. It is certainly NOT a committable offer the majority of the time. It's similar to the kid you mentioned that claimed the grey shirt was sprung on him (QB prospect from GA?) That was bullshit.

I've seen kids claim offers where I've had people on the staff at UA say "Nope. He doesn't have one." There are instances where kids will make it up, or hear what they want to hear.

I have no issues with that at all. What you're saying here is what I've been saying. This recruiting cycle Bama has had kids who wanted to commit but were told to "hang on." They know it's a numbers game. On the same note there's been kids who have had a committable offer and were also told to hang on--numbers and other prospects on the radar. I've no problems with any coaching staff holding cards up their proverbial sleeves when pursuing others.

Calling it all a farce? Hyperbole.

They do now.... lol

Appreciate your intelligent convo. Roll Tide, brotha.
