🏈 West Virginia names a new coach

Not that I think that Stewart is a bad coach or anything, but this seems like a iffy hire to me. I don't think their win last night had as much with them being well coached as it did with OU being badly coached. I'm sorry, but OU just never was in that game, and they had the talent to win it. Stoops and company really dropped the ball on that one. This is the same team that handed Mizzou their collective butts a month ago. But then again, it's nothing new. OU does this every year.
Oh yeah, did you know that Nick Saban makes 4 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!?

It was an emotional hire for WVU. I am of the opinion you should not base your decisions on that emotional high. Yes, it is a feel good story and it will sell newspapers. But in a year or two, where will WVU be? Certainly not the contenders they are now. Though I hope I am wrong.

I agree totally with this post. He seems like a nice guy. I'm not sure he can continue to lead WVU the way RR lead them.

VERY iffy hire. There were a handful of posts from some of the "old-timers" on the WVU boards last night cautioning them not to hire out of emotion. They say that Stewart is fine as a special teams coach but that he can't recruit for crap.

Bad Hire. Oklahoma chokes in the BCS every year, they obviously fail to prepare because they just get tore up by any type of offense in the BCS (WVU, Boise, USC). In my opinion, I just think it was a bad hire, it might help in the short run, but in the long run it'll fail. Terry Bowden should've been there.

Yeah, I wouldn't put too much into WVU's blowout win over OU. Like you said, OU always blows up badly in the BSC and WVU needs the best recruiter it can get. It's never an easy task to coach a school when your local recruiting base is composed of mainly mountains and coal mines. Rich Rodriguez was successful at WVU because he was able to attract talent out of state.

Great for him, it should turn out to be a great fit since he's already familiar with the team. I wonder if he will keep the same offense and staff?
