Whether you loved him, got annoyed by him, hated him, or was just indifferent about him, he WAS the face of the SEC on CBS.

I've found myself just as annoyed as entertained by him. His colleagues in the media, however, have nothing but nice things to say about him. 17 years sure goes by quickly. But honestly, Gary annoys me infinitely more than Verne does.

So, we say goodbye to Uncle Verne. And some gladly welcome Brad Nessler into his chair in the booth. I'd be included in that bunch. But as annoying as he may have been, you have to admit he's been a part of some really great calls. Uncle Verne, PLEASE take Gary with you.

This final sign off is classy and surreal.

Brad Nessler better tighten the ole jockstrap, he's next. Hey, it's what fans do.

Verne Lundquist is all class. This guy has seen more football and retains that experience better than any of us and more than most. I know in these days of negativity and everyone simply finding something to bitch about, there was always Verne in a good mood, chipper attitude, and a guy that simply appreciated being there making the call for the best game, in the best conference, in the greatest sport, in the greatest country in the world. I'm gonna miss him, but appreciate his class more than most. Thanks Verne!

Ness will get there one day, if he does not retire early. Verne just got to where he could not keep up anymore. He should still be fine calling slower sports like golf, not so much March Madness. At least with roundball, there are many less names to keep up with.

Whether it was"Orlando McCain or Rolandro McLain", Verne was always a class act. He is like that uncle that acts like he knows it all but is on that downhill slide. He annoys the **** out of you, but you still love him. That is Uncle Verne!!

Just so you know...That was my sign at the 2008 SEC champ game....that said Hey Verne...Its Not Orlando McCane.
