This is one question that I'd say research is almost a must. If I could lock your computer out of Google, I would.

Background:

When we faced LSU in the BCSNC, LSU was ranked as the #1 team in the AP poll. Facing a #1 team wasn't anything new, we'd faced that before.

On the sad end of things, there are more instances when we were ranked #1 in the AP and lost the game. In fact, there have been several of note in the last few years: South Carolina in 2010 and Florida in 2008.

With that in mind, consider this one for a bit.

There are three teams that have won a National Championship in their history but have never beaten a team ranked #1 in the AP poll. Interestingly enough, two of the three schools in this question have ties that relate back to Alabama. The third can as well...but it's a bit of a stretch.

Name the three schools who have won a National Championship but never beaten a team ranked #1 in the AP poll.

You're on the clock!

Clemson, who won the NC in 1981 under Danny Ford, beat FSU in 2003 who was ranked #3 at the time. They haven't beaten a team higher.

With Pitt, who was coached by Jackie Sherrill to a NC in 1976, beat the #2 ranked WV Mountaineers in 2007. It was that win that helped propel LSU into the NC game. Which, as it ends up, was a win for LSU over a #1 ranked team; Ohio State.

Colorado was in 1990 with an 11-1-1 record. It was a title shared with Ga. Tech at 11-0-1. In 1994 they beat a 6th ranked Arizona team.

Ha ha. My RTB.com shirt in the mail?

For what it's worth, I knew about Clemson off the top of my head.

Since this question was harder than the one Lance got right the other day, the prize is a little better.
