Alabama rolls; Auburn in a tight one

Auburn 38, West Virginia 34
Expect a high-scoring, down-to-the wire thriller at Jordan-Hare. This will be Auburn's toughest challenge to date. Pat White is gone, but don't sleep on QB Jarrett Brown, who is eighth nationally in total offense. The question for West Virginia is how well it will stop, or slow, Auburn's run with a three-man front. West Virginia middle linebacker Reed Williams (sprained foot) and All-Big East defensive lineman Scooter Berry (shoulder) are supposed to play. Their health will be a big factor. On the flip side, can Auburn's defense stay with West Virginia? The Mountaineers were flying around the field last year in their rout of the Tigers.
Alabama 42, North Texas 7
This concludes Alabama's two-week hiatus into the Sun Belt Conference. A new quarterback for North Texas should mean several turnovers for Alabama. If you're a Tide fan looking ahead -- I know, Nick Saban tells you not to, but you're a fan, that's what you do -- keep an eye on Alabama's kickoff coverage unit. Has it gotten better? (Could it get any worse?) Dangerous Arkansas kick returner Dennis Johnson comes to Tuscaloosa next week.
Florida 38, Tennessee 3
This could be the first time a 30- to 40-point rout is viewed as disappointing, because the expectations are so high for Florida to put up 50 or 60. Urban Meyer will certainly have his foot on the gas to stick it to Lane Kiffin. But Tennessee actually has a solid defense, particularly in the secondary with Eric Berry. Florida doesn't have the receivers it had a year ago. The Gators only reach 50 or 60 if they score at least twice on defense and/or special teams. Tennessee has no hope on offense to do much.
Arkansas 34, Georgia 30
My upset of the week, which no longer seems like an upset since so many people are picking it. Georgia's defense has allowed 24 points to Oklahoma State and 37 points (huh???) to South Carolina. Arkansas should manage to at least get 30 and outscore the Bulldogs. I actually think the Razorbacks could run away with this one, but I'll give Mark Richt the benefit of the doubt. Given the Razorbacks' brutal SEC road schedule (Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida and LSU), they've got to win this one at home.
