Hey gang, just wanted to check in from San Diego and wish everyone a happy holiday. We're down here hanging out for the week on a little vacation.

We went to Old Town again today (we went last time we came) and the place was overrun with Boise State fans. You know they wear the same ugly colors as the Gators and I actually had to do a double take the first time to make sure it wasn't a bunch of Florida fans. I would have hated to have to rough someone up.  But anyway, these Boise State folks are out in force here in San Diego for the bowl game. It makes me miss being back home and hanging out around Bryant-Denny with the BAMA nation.

Anyway, I wish everyone a merry Christmas. We're going to hang out here for a few more days and then head home in time to watch the good guys play Utah.

BSU loses this one down the stretch! Damn that defense of TCU reminds me of 1992! Punishing Defense that's what BSU hasn't faced at all on a consistent basis! They would lose 5 games in the SEC! Period!

Dude your that close to TJ and not going to party? comom make a run for the border!

OMG i had so much fun in TJ when i was outthere. I almost wanted to move to Mexico. We stayed pickled the whole time. Of course i was 25 @ the time ....
and i was with 3 guys from Seal Team 6 and a guy i went to high school with who was a navy intell officer. So..i'm with 4 guys all of whom fluently speak more langauges than i encounter in a year, (spanish being one) we've all got a boat load of cash and they know all the "hot spots". what more could go wrong.....

well...lets just say that 1 hour in a Mexican jail...was one hour too many. if ya go...Word of advise....when the little kids swam you and and start stuffing candy in your pockets crying "mister mister my papa he beat me if you no buy"....just pay em off.

Serously have a blast man. Every thing north of San Diego & south of Sacramentto is trash. Loved the Imperial Beach area. If you get to imperial beach....go by The Plank....nice little bar right on the beach....and tell the cute lil red headed chick with the HUGE knockers behind the bar, Julie(owner)....ol' Copperhead said "Duu Huu" she'll now what ya mean. You'll get a free round of Crown Royal & apple juice for it. lol

Dude, you aint lying about everything being crap. My wife is actually from Sacremento, and I've been there a couple of times (on account of her). Anyone that has never been there might actually think it's odd, but Sac actually reminds me of Birmingham. It's nicer, but the climate and landscape is similar. Amazingly, that area is a lot like Alabama, since there is a lot of agriculture in the northern part of the state.

San Diego is beautiful, but I agree that everything in between is pretty much crap.

As far as the Mexican jail goes, I'm fortunate that I've never been in one, but I've had experiences with the cops. Back when I was a young airman in New Mexico my buddies and I all went down to Jaurez, Mexico. Jaurez is nothing but a big slum but it's the place that everyone in El Paso and that area goes to.

We're coming out of a club, ready to leave for the night, and I hear a commotion behind me as we're leaving. My buddy gets thrown up against a wall by the cops because, in his infiniate wisdom, he snuck beer out of the club. Big no-no apparently. The cops there threw him around like a sack of taters!

Since we were new to the "Mexican political climate", as you might say, we were not savvy about bribing the cops. We walk all the way to the jailhouse to talk to the cops about getting him out and learn that it takes a grand total of $10 to get our friend out of the patty wagon. Talk about luck! All of us combined had a total of $12 at the end of the night.

We go back to the patty wagon and bail his sorry a$$ out. Talk about a man that had found God!

I don't go to Mexico much if I have a choice. Someone else can have that.

what were guys from devgru doing on the left coast...

TJ is a nasty city, I had some fun down there when I was 19 and stationed in SD...but I wouldn't go there if I was old enough to drink in the US, but that's me. Baja is much nicer once you get below the boarder town.

did you ever venture furture south, if not, you really missed out in my opinion.

SD is an awesome place to live if you can afford the sunshine tax...

oh yeah, Merry Christmas :D

I feel sorry for you. Those guys have SEC level arrogance without the history to back it up.

Yup. sure did. Spent a couple weekends around Cabo...before it was a tourist trap.
and some little fishing village that i can remember the name of. it's a lot better to go out of the way...but with all the Mexican Mafia & banditos on the loose .....even more so nowadays...i'd prefer to stay as close to the boader as possible.
it's bad when just last week an American Anti-Kidnapping specialist working on the boarder....gets freaking kid napped. lol rofl. poor guy. hope he's alright. but the irony of that is just mind boggling.

I dunno shawn (high school buddy) said something about training. been a long time and my memory ain't what it used to be. not being in the navy i figured wasn't any of my bussiness. besides at 25 with 2 grand in my pocket, and 4 guys who spoke fluent spanish.....what navy persoanell wher where and what for didn't seem to concern me as much as how drunk i was going to get and how many girls i could bed. i was so drunk i had to write my own name on my shirt so i'd know who i was.

Sacramento was a real surprise. I spent a few days there a couple of years ago. Chop's right. It does remind me of Birmingham. I also had the best bowl of Chili Colorado I've ever eaten in Sacramento. They also have a pretty nice minor league baseball stadium there.

Merry Christmas to you and your family Keith.
