šŸ€ We briefly talked about the game changing watching teams like 'Nova and their three point shooting. Here's a shocking number even knowing how...

...much the game has changed.

In perspective, the guys we'll be watching next year weren't born yet. If I recall correctly, depending on which state and classification, the three point line in high school was between six and eight years old.

Alabama shot 702 (229 made) last season, opponents 799 attempts making 262. .

Wow, that's crazy. Guys are bigger and taller as a whole now, so I think it's more difficult for a lot of guys to score one on one, or without passing on their way to the hoop. Taking the easy three has become the way to beat size. That's why guys like Durant, James, and Harden are so good, because they are 6'10, 6'9, and 6'5 respectively, and can score from anywhere, not just throw up the three like Curry. Pretty much losing guys like the former though.

The international game has been at the forefront of what is now being described as the 3 and D player at the NBA draft and outside-in style of play. Spread, spread, spread, it's all we are really seeing in football and basketball really.

It has changed , and I don’t think for the better .

I miss the days of Low post play and Defence being able to really play . When you payed for taking a charge .

When they went for points over even play , they lost me . I all but quit watching with any real consistency.

Advanced stats... Can shoot that lower % from 3 and still score the points. A few makes and you've got the defense all spread out and lanes everywhere which ups the 2 %'s.

I'm certainly no genius, but about 10 years ago I used to give some coaching friends shit about encouraging the mid range shot. Obviously sometimes they are wide open and can't be passed up... But when you're taking 17-18 footers for 2 pts when a 20 footer is worth 3, it was hard to justify. And what people really started to understand that killed the mid range game is this... On every shot 3 things generally happen:

1. Make
2. Miss
3. Foul & shoot FT's.

Getting fouled on a mid range shot generally doesn't happen. If you're taking a 2, get to the rim and force the ref's hands. And now a days they're calling fouls on 3's all the time... Which makes that long 2 even worse.

JMO. Good stat and subject Terry.

Good perspective you have there, and I tend to agree. My only question is what is the difference percentage wise of that mid-range two being made than that 20-foot three being made? A couple feet could mean a significant difference.

4. Half, if not more, don't bother to follow their shot.

Why would you?

1. If you're shooting a shot, you expect to make it
2. If you don't finish/hold follow through, you can't be a consistent shooter
3. Transition D - Get your ass back and make the other team earn a basket

The parent screaming "follow your shot" is the same parent at a baseball game saying "C'mon Timmy - You're due!". Basically saying... You suck. lol

It would have to be 33% less considering the value of each made shot....

JMO I've been watching basketball since the middle '70s The 3pt shot has IMO been the largest individual change to the game but a more subtle change to me has been the way transition ball is now played with a few exceptions. I don't mean the old run&gun style ofthe Bill Russell Celtics or even Loyola or the Nuggets of the '90s. Basically every player has premium ball handling skills and above average passing skills which to me is the largest overall change in the sport since I started watching all those years ago. again JMO
