🏈 We are in trouble folks and it's AJ McCarron's lack of ability

According to Matt Hayes of the "Sporting News"....

I cannot understand where this guy is coming from? I listened to ESPN Radio and other college review shows and did not hear one analyst say anything bad about AJ. I then watched the CBS broadcast and didn't hear Verne or, more namely, Gary Danielson say anything close to what Matt Hayes was inferring. Apparently, he is a graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism. Do they even have a football program? I guess haters will hate.

well.. there is something to note about what this guy's saying though. when mccarron first got on the field for Alabama he was throwing long bombs and was right on target seemingly every time. this season so far most of his longer throws have been overthrown. i don't have the numbers but i would say his percentage on routes longer than 25 is pretty low. he's not getting many opportunities in the game to throw these routes so writers like this assume he can't make the throws.

Bama fans know different. we watched this kid make throws in mop up that had us drooling. I think we know he can do it, but he also needs to do it in a game under pressure to know that things are looking good for that aspect of his game.

the writer is right to say that at some point AJ will be exposed. a better LOS will stuff our running game in the first half and force AJ to make these kinds of throws. this guy thinks AJ won't get it done. I think AJ will. then the writer will need to get a new article together.

Prediction certain trouble in the future while insisting that shortcoming stand no chance of improving is stupid.

We all know that taking a shot down field is about keeping the defense from loading the box. Its not about trying to become a quick-hit passing team. Completing the pass is a bonus, but enabling a punishing running game and a chain-moving short passing game are the #1 goals.
Bottom line is that it is working...and will get better.

Didnt Danielson refer to AJ as a "B+ QB" which he said he had to be for us to have a shot this year?

This Hayes guy comes off sounding really ignorant to me... I will agree we have to complete those deep bombs at some point but where does he get this notion that AJ "takes too many sacks"? He's been sacked a total of 2 times against Penn State & Arkansas...combined. WTF is he talking about?

And then he makes "if you take away the screen passes and the long TD to Williams" argument... i mean really?! y the hell would u take those away? they HAPPENED, those arent imaginary passes... u know like his imaginary "what if" situation. That is ridiculous.

AJ looks exactly like what he is--a talented kid learning the ropes of being the leader.

Could Bama get beat if someone forces them into being one-dimensional and then forces that one-dimension to make mistakes? Of course. The same could be said about every team!

Am I sold on AJ being a superstar? Nope. Not being a superstar and being a liability are two TOTALLY different things.

I heard Danielson say yesterday we didn't have a weakness on our team. That, vs what Hayes said...

Both are opinions. It's just like it was two years ago.

When it was Mallett vs McElroy everyone pointed to how good Mallett would do. Even in the game the commentators were talking about Mallett while Greg was quietly putting on a show.

This year they talked about Wilson quite a bit and praised him for the job he was doing. Yet, all along, AJ was putting up better numbers all around.

I want you guys to think about the number of negative plays we had Saturday. A few, but only a few.

AJ made a lot of calls at the LOS Saturday's including a lot of check-downs. I've got no complaints and that credit goes to AJ. He was running our offense.

That's ridiculous...Danielson had a man crush on Tebow but don't try to act like he roots against us. He's a VERY good commentator, the guy knows his football. Vern is a half wit tho

if you'll notice, i didn't say he wasn't a good announcer or that he "didn't know his football". what i said is that he was quiet. he usually blasts his mouth all over a game and during that one it was quite infrequent that he said anything. go back and listen. i'm not even saying i know why. geez.

I like Danielson enough, but sometimes he goes on and on about some ridiculous things that make you just want to scream "shut up!" at the TV. Like the whole "leading with the helmet" comment they brought up two or three times. I mean...yeah it looked like it was almost leading with the helmet, ANY defender the squares up and tackles someone is going to look like he's almost leading with the helmet.

I think a lot of fans fail to realize this. AJ did make a ton of checks, so many in fact, Saban said in his post game presser that AJ called the game from the line of scrimmage. I'm not saying McElroy never did this, but I don't ever remember reading where Saban actually stated that the Qb called the game. Anyone who isn't satisfied with his performance Saturday will never be satisfied with a QB for Alabama.

One more thing to consider, 3 of the 5 passes that AJ didn't complete were inches away from being 20+ yard plays. The first one that hit Maze in the hand on the playaction? That's a touchdown if Maze can pull it in. Once he puts a little more touch on those long balls, Bama is going to have a very good offense.

AJ's "overthrows" missed their mark by INCHES. Not yards, but INCHES. I hope people keep downplaying his abilities. It will bite you in the ass, if you are an opposing defensive coordinator or a defensive-minded (lol) head coach, ranked 117th out of 120th. PLEASE make us "one dimensional," as someone posted. He will beat the brakes off of you by throwing, if need be. He is a leader, and he has the ability to do things that we haven't seen in awhile. Just keep watching. What happened to the "Best receiving corp in college football?" Exactly. The experts....

When you think about it, the head (and therefore the helmet) arrives before the rest of the tackler's body. It's hard not to "lead with the helmet" whenever you make a tackle.
