| BSB/SB WCWS~ Third Shutout of the Weekend Sends Alabama Softball to NCAA Super Regionals

LOL, Ole Miss blew a 6-0 lead to Arizona, then lost their cool and acted like idiots on the filed. One player talked shit to an umpire after a called 3rd strike, then the next batter disagreed with a call and was assessed strike because she wouldn't get back in the box, and then another OM player that was on base basically shoved the HP ump as her HC was arguing with him. Not a good look at all. Rebs currently losing 12-6 in the 6th... They will also be on the losing end of a phone call from Greg Sankey in the morning.

Updated bracket...

The Florida State, aubrun, UCF and Kennesaw State grouping caught my eye, but more from a football standpoint. FSU remains in the football backcountry, aubrun is aubrun. Kennesaw State is a UCF perhaps 8-10 years behind them in football. It's a Baby Huey that grew out of a teacher's college, sucked up Georgia HOPE money, and then absorbed an engineering school (Southern Poly, which was a good school). They're sitting at 35,000 students, about three thousand behind UGA for the largest school in the state. They started football in 2014 (they only practiced that season and every player took a redshirt) and started straight into an FCS schedule in 2015. Since they've started playing, they've gotten the better of both Jax State and Samford, and had some decent playoff wins. I wonder if they'll make the jump to FBS in the next three to five years.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball posted its third shutout of the weekend, defeating Clemson 5-0 to win the Tuscaloosa Regional and punch its 16th ticket to the NCAA Super Regional round.

Alabama (48-7) didn't allow a single run all weekend, completing the shutout sweep Sunday against Clemson (44-8) to send the Crimson Tide to Super Regionals. Since the current postseason format was adopted in 2005, Alabama is the only team to play in every Super Regional round. The win improves the Tide's regional win streak to 43-straight games, stretching back to 2007.

Playing as the designated visiting team, Alabama got on the board in the top of the first on a sac fly RBI from Kaylee Tow. With two on base in the next inning, Taylor Clark slammed a three-run home run to center field to stretch the lead to 4-0. Speed on the basepaths tacked on another in the fourth, with an infield single from Alexis Mack leading to an errant throw as Elissa Brown rounded third and scored to make it 5-0. Montana Fouts (24-3) and the defense did the rest, holding the Tigers out of the run column with just three hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts.

Next up, Alabama will host the Super Regional round facing 14th-seed Kentucky, who won the Lexington Regional. Dates, times and TV information are to be determined.

FROM HEAD COACH PATRICK MURPHY

"Again, Montana [Fouts] was terrific. I thought our speed game made a big difference this weekend. They hurried some throws. Taylor Clark came through big again. That might be the hardest-hit ball she's had in her career here. [Alexis] Mack in the fifth made them hurry and they threw it away and that scored a run."

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Alabama improves to 62-9 in regional play, including a 55-3 mark at home
  • The Tide has now won 43-straight games in the regional round, stretching back to 2007

Autumn Gillespie. She was running her mouth at the HP ump when they were in Tuscaloosa. The fans at Rhoads starting giving her hell after a few innings...got under her skin enough where she turned around and told the crowd to "shut the fuck up." A few innings into that game Saturday and she was trying to take out Hemphill on a play at the plate: "football takes to the diamond" kind of play.

When she was up to bat on Sunday Fouts beamed her nicely...square in the back. Message sent and received.

I found it amusing she is a transfer from UCF: coincidence or irony?

I remember they used to charge us a "technology fee" for every online class we took which tripled our tuition before they could really compete with the Georgia's, tech's, and even Georgia Southern's of the state. Ridiculous. Papp was a shitty president, but it definitely feels like they are booming up there now. It's a different ballgame as they've added massive dorms, apartments, and dining halls, but yes, came from very humble beginnings even just looking from the early 2000's.
