šŸ’¬ Was last nights review in the NBA finals of a charge call (overturned) a precursor to PI calls being reviewed and then overturned?

I didn't watch the game. I have seen more than a half of a dozen replays of the charge call--one ruled as a judgement call in the books--that was overturned on replay.

First of all, reviewing a judgment call? OK, perhaps this replay thing has started to jump the shark, eh?

It did led me to start wondering about how far the rabbit hole is going to end up going. Are we on the cusp of seeing PI calls in football reviewed? Russillo was thinking the same thing I was it appears.

Like you, I'm not a fan of the NBA. But I have to say this. I don't think that's ever happened before. Reviewing a charge? I can say I've never seen it before.
Neither have I but I don't watch the games. I have heard both Greeny and Jalen Rose say it's never happened before in the NBA.

And, btw, it's a bit ironic hearing Jalen criticize Smith about his head not being in the game....know time, score, what's available, etc. We have seen another situation where people can point to the officials and say they changed the context of the end of the game.

Then they had better review holding on the LOS. We've been on the short end of that game. I don't know why Alabama's opponents overall keep having fewer penalties called when they play us. The NY Yankees have more borderline pitches called for strikes, percentage-wise, than any other major league team. Maybe the refs are subconsciously trying to level the field against the better teams. Worst case scenario, they are consciously trying to level the playing field against the better teams.

Then they had better review holding on the LOS.
That is easy for me to understand seeing the holds on the line and then looking to see if they actually affected the play itself. More often than not there is holding but those holds don't necessarily change the outcome of the play.

My point wasn't necessarily what is holding or when it should be called, I'm wondering out loud why, when we continue to be at the top of the league in QB sacks and pressures, why holding is called less on our opponent than on us? Maybe replay can help these refs find their way.

Legitimate question.

Although I have to admit I like it when opponents and their fans complain about the officials when they lose to Bama only to learn how the Tide's opponents are penalized less than any other team in FBS. It'll shut someone up, quickly. That's golden. In fact, it's as golden as seeing Auburn complain about having Bama and UGA on the road this year but we didn't hear a damn thing about it last year. Then it was "we should be in the other division" with no mention of hosting Bama and UGA in the same season. Hell, Auburn made it to ATL largely due to having UGA and Bama at home.

I have no problems with a review to make sure the call is right - regardless of sport. What I don't want is a review to see if something should be called. Suppose there is a call for an illegal block on a play. While reviewing the video, the ref sees a holding call elsewhere during the play. Do they call the holding penalty? Use video to confirm the call made.

Based purely on the type of call is how I see this OP.

Has the shot clock, play clock, or game clock expired. Did a receiver have his foot down or not? Did a guy step on the line or not?

Reviewing holding, PI, blocking in basketball, etc...like I said, it's a rabbit hole with no visible bottom.

Only way I could see the use of instant replay being a good thing in this situation is if the officials cut down on their whistle at the same time but with different opinions, block or charge.
I didn’t watch the game either but I did see the fuss and replay afterwards. We have seen officials gather together on different calls at different times. Just get the call right. Like @OldPlayer said, I don’t want to see it used to call a penalty or foul that was missed.

Florida vs UCLA in the WCWS. The home plate ump clearly missed the call. No doubt.

Is this something you guys think should be reviewed? I've no problem with "is he/she out, or safe?"

( I saw the clip on SC. I've not found the video online yet...sure it's out here.)
