New Orleans Saints second-year safety Vinnie Sunseri was carted to the locker room after suffering an injury on punt coverage in the second quarter vs. Houston on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Sunseri fell to the ground after running down the field to cover the punt. He tried to limp off the field but needed assistance from athletic trainers.
After laying on the sideline trainer's table in apparent pain, Sunseri was taken by cart to the locker room.
Sunseri, 21, was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by the Saints in 2014.
He played largely on special teams in his rookie season before breaking his arm in November.
Starting strong safety Kenny Vaccaro did not dress out for Sunday's preseason game against the Texans and free safety Jairus Byrd has not practiced all month. Sunseri's absence will mean that Kenny Phillips, Pierre Warren and Jamarca Sanford should play extensively Sunday
