Damn. Gotta wonder what's going on in Blacksburg.

BLACKSBURG (hokiesports.com) - Virginia Tech head athletic trainer Mike Goforth released the following injury update Thursday evening in regards to the Hokies football team:

Offensive lineman Mark Shuman: ā€œMark Shuman has a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee. We are looking to do surgery on him early next week. We’ll be talking to his parents tonight and getting a plan together. It’s the same knee he’s had scoped before. He’s actually torn the meniscus before in a different location. It’s a four to six week recovery period and we expect him back full.ā€

Outside linebacker Ronny Vandyke: ā€œRonny needs surgery on his right shoulder. We are waiting to talk to his mom to get a surgical plan, but it will keep him out six to eight months, so he will miss the remainder of the season and will be probable for spring ball.ā€

Running back Tony Gregory: ā€œTony Gregory has re-torn his left ACL. He will evaluate his options over the next couple of days, but his career at Virginia Tech is effectively over.ā€

Running back J.C. Coleman: ā€œJ.C. has a left high ankle sprain and a right regular ankle sprain. We’re hoping to get him back in less than two weeks, but that’s very optimistic. We think he’ll be ready and back in time for the Alabama game. He’s working hard to get back as soon as he can.ā€

Offensive lineman Augie Conte: ā€œAugie has an ankle sprain in his left ankle. It shouldn’t take long at all. I don’t know if he’ll scrimmage Saturday, but if he doesn’t scrimmage Saturday, there’s no reason he can’t be back full on Monday.ā€

SO sad for those players! On a side note, if I knew that I was about to face Alabama, I might try to get a doctor to write an excuse for me.

Lol reminds me of hockey teams in the 1970s and the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers were a hard hitting team called the "Broad Street Bullies" and were very successful. Some teams were so chicken, they had players literally get doctors notes not to play. I think some Penguins players "got the flu" numerous times.

Back on topic though: that really sucks for them. That's rough, best of luck to them in their recoveries.

Like the flu the flyers got at least these past two seasons? :lance::lol: GO PENS!!

You're right. It's bad enough for this completely undermanned team to play Bama in the first game, but to have this many injuries...Geez! OTOH, this will be a good game to watch Bama build some depth in the 4th quarter.

Damn, this is RB Tony Gregory's 4th career ACL tear.

ICYMI:

You may have noticed a thread or two this past off-season where the PAC decided to implement new rules regarding contact in practices. I don't recall the exact stipulations but when I read it I did consider how much they were cutting out of practices.

Yet, just last week, USC had 19 kids miss one practice due to being banged up.

....23 this past Wednesday, and 22 held out today during scrimmage. Supposedly none of these are season injuries.

Karma for all the bullshit noise Kiffin created at Tennessee. Poor Spurrier, he's 0-1 against Kiffin.

But, but, but...he's got a winning record over Saban.

But, but, but...he's got a losing record vs DuBose.

The limiting of contact imo might have the reverse impact that what they think... you're not use to taking the punishment and suddenly you go from little contact to a scrimmage where there is alot of contact and a bunch of players go down... same in the NFL. Look at the rash of injuries with this cutdown on contact in practices.

Wow, it continues.

So Henry is gonna be about 10-15 lbs lighter than the DL/LB groups on Va Tech...
