I don't know about you guys, but this isn't a good PR move on USC's part. Leaking that he left like this is tacky, Orgeron turned that team around after Kiffin's mishandling... Quite frankly, its putting Orgeron in a bad light.

To me, Sarkisian is a so-so hire for USC. They went for a company man...

So was Lame Kitten. No way could he ever be considered a home run hire. I agree with Chief, however. Looks like not hiring Haw Haw was a correct move.

It's familiar, isn't it? All three of their coaches after Carroll are "company men."

I suppose we'll get the answer to the question "was it Kiffin or Sark who led those offenses to success under Carroll." (Reminds me a little of OU trying to find answers to porous defenses.)

He knew he wasn't going to be the coach (he had to), so I'm a bit skeptical on the whole "outraged" part. It was pretty clear that it wasn't an audition situation.

I'm with you here. When I saw that I wondered, "what was the benefit of being outraged and leaving?" I'm left suspecting the reports of his outrage are somewhat contrived—by USC?

On another note, I wonder what Viane Talamaivao is thinking today...

It would not be out of the norm for Sark to not have to interview. They know each other and have vast experience together. This could have been as simple as "Hey Steve, this is Pat. Well, what about it?" "Sure Pat, I'll do it." And the rest gets played out on ESPN and in Twitter-verse. This happens behind the scenes more than the "due process" and "school policy" folks want to admit.

This was probably done months ago so why didn't they give Coach O an interview if for no other reason than to keep his tail feathers from ruffling?

Misspelled zero.

They don't have any experience working together.

If they were done months ago, why reach out to guys like Del Rio?
OK maybe weeks ago but my point was to keep Coach O happy. Giving him a interview would look better on his resume and would at least kept him on board until after their bowl. Just poor management. IMHO

I don't believe it was weeks ago.

I do believe Sark was on their short list, but he certainly wasn't a guy they had their eyes set on—he doesn't have the NFL connections/pedigree they were hoping to bring into the program.

You may recall conversations here about whether or not USC was going to be sanctioned by the NCAA. While there were a lot that were saying they'll get off I kept saying "they've been told to expect sanctions by their Administration."

The person who shared information with me then is the same one that's kept me casually abreast of what has been happening the last month or two.

I can't say how far down Sark was on their list. I can say, with no doubt, he wasn't at the top or in the top three or four. Hell, if Petersen had accepted the interview and job Sark would still be at Washington.
