Video: Urban Meyerâs reaction to hearing Alabama uses former players on scout team
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was asked for his thoughts regarding Alabamaâs use of former players as scout team members for practice during his Monday press conference and the NCAAâs lack of disapproval.
His response? He had no idea that was even a thing. You can tell by his body language as his head dips and his eye brows raise with what looks to be paired with a certain degree of surprise.
âIn practice?â Meyer asked with intrigue. âI did not know that.â Meyer also joked with the reporters, saying he âhad to go and make a phone call.â
Alabama coach Nick Saban has been utilizing former players (Blake Sims, Trent Richardson, John Parker Wilson) to come in and play against starters in scout team situations. For example, Richardson was brought in to emulate current LSU running back Leonard Fournette prior to the Crimson Tideâs Week 10 game with the Tigers, which resulted in a 10-0 win for the Tide.
Thereâs nothing in the NCAA rule book prohibiting against the use of former players. As such, Saban is taking full advantage of this loophole.
Judging from Meyerâs reaction, we can expect others to follow suit.
So Coach Saban does this and it like he done something wrong. Everybody want it gone just because he thought of it first. If it was Meyer, or some other coach it wouldn't be a matter. Is a Video but I didn't post it on here.
