🧑‍🤝‍🧑 / 🏡 Update on Life

Hey Guys!!!

I haven't been very available and around lately and kind of stopped the recruiting updates and a lot of all around posting due to some IRL issues.

Had a rough couple (3-4) months the last little bit, I was in a massive car wreck in June that almost took me out. I somehow with the grace of god walked away with just a few scrapes and bad bruises. The firefighters and EMTs showed up expecting a fatality and were surprised I was not only not dead, but walking around just fine. I had been saved one time, well the Lord wasn't done with me there.

After that, I had an issue with my chest, my bruises and worried about internal bleeding or issues so I went to get a full scan with contrast at the Doctor's discretion. After this scan I was expecting an all clear and that I would need to rest for a while. Instead, the doctor walked in with the scan and showed me a tumor growing in my chest that had been growing for a bit but was early stages. I may have been saved multiple times by just this one incident. After that, it was a bit of a whirlwind dealing with oncologists, doctors, etc etc. I had people coming out the woodwork, and I was just happy to be alive and have found something that could've ultimately killed me before it got too far along.

So I took a bit of hiatus from everything did some traveling and some soul searching. During all of this I've also been dealing with divorce and moving on from the ex-wife, so it's been a rough year so far. I missed talking to a lot of you and your insights and I'm glad I was able to get back and have surgery to remove the tumor about 3 weeks ago. They had to do a full cut on my chest and crack open my ribs to access it. I'm still in recovery but the good news is that the tumor is benign and they were able to remove 100% of it and expect no recurrence at this point. They will do a scan every year to check but honestly this was the best news anyone could have hoped for over a tumultuous 3-4 months of timeframe where uncertainty ruled. I was always optimistic and always trusted that someone was looking out for me, hard not to be that way when all of it occurs the way it did and in such weird circumstances. The wreck even was a solo wreck with me and a parked vehicle on the side of the interstate so I was the only person hurt at all...honestly I'm grateful for the insights people provide here and the opinions. I appreciate this place, I was a lurker back in the day when I was younger and then eventually I decided to start posting. I was in out of my depth for years and definitely a bit more emotional and knee jerk reaction type before but as I grew older I have become more level headed and luckily more attached to the University through friends, family, and business partners.

Anyways, if you guys get anything from this, thank the Lord for what you have and be grateful for the life he's given to you.

Been a weird year, Ben. I don't share whats going on in my life but with a select few here. But, encourage others to, so...hrrmm.

I know hospitals ALL too well after the past year. I haven't shared the story (stories,) but I can empathize with you on that part. Or, offer suggestions.

Okay. Get this one. During last year's college football playoffs I was in the hospital...every two hours it was either Diladud or Oxy. We/they switched every two. I was HIGH AS HELL! But, in pain, so there's that. The Citadel had their stadium lights on in Johnson Haygood the night Tennessee played...so, I was in that "position" watching football and looking out the window and seeing that stadium. Yes, from a hospital window.

It's all what you make of it is my point in the end .. I guess?

Hope you’re healing and doing better.

Dang, @bamafan9201, sounds like you've DEFINITELY had a rough go of it these past few months. Praying for you to get better and be back stronger than ever. You got this.

My life, in comparison, has been quite peachy. Nothing to speak of, health-wise (other than I'm trying to lose some weight...eating a LOT of salads). I will say that a very good friend of my mine just had 2 stents put in his heart and 1 in one of his legs. And he has to get another put in the other leg. On top of that, they're planning on moving to the next county next month. His wife works way too much, plus they have custody of their 2 grandkids (8yo and 7yo). But I know he'll make it through just fine. He's as stubborn as I am.

Wow. Glad you’re on the mend and back on a smooth road. That’s certainly a lot to deal with, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Sure seems the wreck was a sign sent in an odd way. I’m sure non-believers will scoff at that, but others know what I mean. Hope you can find some refuge here at RTB anytime you need it. Lots of good folks here. A handful of bums too, but I think even they mean well sometimes. Haha. Anyway, good to hear from you and we appreciate the update.
