🏈 UNC suspends 13 football players for selling team-issued shoes

Offensive linemen Brian Anderson, Quiron Johnson and Jordan Tucker; defensive ends Malik Carney, Tomon Fox and Tyrone Hopper; linebacker Malik Robinson; quarterback Chazz Surratt; and wide receiver Beau Corrales will each sit out four games.

Defensive backs Greg Ross and Tre Shaw will miss two games, and both quarterback Jack Davidson and offensive lineman Jonah Melton will miss one game.

The suspensions will be staggered.

uh.....whut?!

so let's suspend all the guys who did the deed. but let's not be fair about it. let's suspend some 4 games, others 2 games, and still others only 1 game.

and not only that, the suspensions will be staggered.....of course they will. can't have that many guys out at once, might lose a game.

why not just suspend them all for 3 games...the first 3 games of the season? be done with it.

The UNC athletic department has had a couple of really bad years. "Come sign with us and you don't have to go to class and the shoes are own us".

There is not a university in this country that doesn't give players free t-shirts, shorts, hats, shoes, etc. and there is no issue with that. The problem was players selling those things (and then likely coming back for more, rinse and repeat).

"Since many of the players play the same position, the staggered suspensions have been approved by the NCAA."

Which is why the suspensions were different. The number of games suspended, BY THE NCAA, would be based on the value of the items sold.

which is why no one takes the ncaa serious, anymore. they let the schools dictate how they'll be punished. so many times they've let the schools hand down their own punishment and the ncaa said, "ok, that works". how about just saying, "nope, here's what you're going to do".

if you're going to be a ruling authority, then you need to either set some rules, ENFORCE THOSE RULES, or get the hell out of the way and just let the schools deal with problems on their own.

The NCAA has never told a school, "No, that's too much of a punishment" for self-imposed penalties. That tells me that the NCAA is ignorant about how serious a problem this is. They WILL add penalties, but they never cut back.

"The NCAA guidelines for eligibility reinstatement for violations involving student-athletes are as follows: (1) Value of benefit ranges from greater than $200 to $400 = withholding of 10 percent and repayment; (2) Value of the benefit ranges from greater than $400 to $700 = withholding of 20 percent and repayment; and (3) Value of benefit greater than $700 = withholding of 30 percent and repayment.
