🏈 UF/LSWho?, Part II

After all that yah-yah'ing between those two teams last year, UF has decided to assign their homecoming game to the Corndog game. Yeah, that's a slap in the face after UF went to Red Stick last year and won, but what if they win again this year? I can't imagine LSWho's morale will be too high after that.

Look at it two ways:

1. Many teams schedule a patsy opponent for Homecoming and LSU is the patsy
or
2. Use the game as a way to get a sell out and alumni come out to make the weekend a classic (instead of less than capacity crowd to see a slaughter and poor crowds for Homecoming events).

Alabama used to schedule patsies for Homecoming but has changed to using an SEC opponent to boost attendance.

Use to be considered an insult......to be homecoming opponent.....
Take that LSU

That's how I took it.

I don't know what I think about this. While I don't think O is a good coach. I do think he is pretty good recruiter. Couple that with a talent rich state like Louisiana and you can field really good teams based on talent alone. (See Les Miles tenure) I know emotions will only take you so far in a game and then coaching + talent will rule the day. (see LSU/Bama 2016)

I just don't think I would want to schedule a consistent contender in the west for HC. Ole Miss, MSU definitely.

I don't think the stigma of it being an insult is ever going away. Yes, OldPlayer has a good point about the crowds and the high school teams, but after all the posturing from last year's game, this looks more like an insult than anything else.

It's been a few years since Bama's had a "sister school" in for homecoming. 2014 with WKU. Arkansas has been the opponent twice, Kentucky was the team last season.

If I'm not mistaken the only other game they could choose was A&M the following weekend. To me it sounds like a "made for TV" ballgame.

This was supposed to be an away weekend until the Hurricane fiasco of last season.

The LSU/Florida series never seems to have the bad blood that often happens with annual opponents. Maybe Les just did a great job of disarming rivals. I do recall Petrino trying to make something out of a beatdown they were getting from the Tigers but not much came from it. This hurricane thing has really made this rivalry the must-see TV it should be between two SEC powers.

Surfing around I see it suggested that Florida should give their baseball team their NC rings at halftime. Now we're talking about a little added drama ...

I like it...............................a lot. Les did a good job in not allowing his teams to beat themselves with stupid penalties and keeping their composure in tough situations. I saw a lot more of the undisciplined and unsportsmanlike stuff as the season went on with Orgeron's bunch. I think with both McElwain and Orgeron, you are getting a lot more emotion than what's been the norm in this rivalry.

There's been a couple of instances where LSU has had a personal foul penalty called in the second half against Bama. The fullback...in Tiger Stadium, three four years ago...what was his name. Chris...

Maybe I'm remembering this incorrectly, but didn't Foley insist on the game being played in Gainsville on Saturday...regardless of the weather. I believe LSU suggested many options, but fell on deaf ears. Florida realized they might need this game to make it to Atlanta, hence the change of heart/location.

Alleva is a knucklehead, but this isn't on him. Foley did alot of things right at Florida, including letting Alleva/LSU take the PR hit on this.

Barrett Sallee is an idiot for stating this is on LSU.

It was scheduled for Gainesville in 2016 but the weather postponed it. The two schools and the SEC looked for options to reschedule in 2016. LSU refused to go to Gainesville and insisted it be played in Baton Rouge. That's why 2017 and 2018 games are being played in Gainesville (to get the rotation back to normal).

I thought it was getting sloppy in a number of games. Fournette got in a pushing match in the pregame with Florida and went into the dressing room and suited up for the game. Orgeron doesn't seem to mind, but then, neither did Mark Richt.

Not exactly how I remember it. I remember LSU trying to do anything to get the game location changed prior to the weather, Foley's stance was the game would be played in Gainsville that Saturday...while the Governor of Florida was talking about safety. Foley opted to wait and see, and hope that the weather would cooperate for a game on Saturday vs being proactive and finding a new venue. Hindsight shows he choose wrong based on weather, but if they win the game again this year, they I supposed you could suggest he choose right.

Florida realized they may need the game for SEC standings to make it to Atlanta and negotiations started up.

Like I said, this is all Foley.

I suspect Sankey learned a few things he could improve on for the next time when this happens. It's my opinion Sankey didn't handle this very well either early on.

I would have said it was mostly on Florida for not making the game up that weekend. LSU was more than happy to make it up on Saturday or Sunday anywhere. But once that passed, they were determined they weren't giving up one of their OOC slots to go to Gainsville. Maybe they need the money but they were adamant they were not giving up a home game to play Florida. In the end, they got their home game but put themselves in a bind to do it this year.

I personally put a lot of this on the commissioner. I couldn't believe he couldn't exercise his muscle to make this game happen at least the next day when Georgia and South Carolina made up their game, at least on Monday. LSU got caught in this situation before and they made it up on Monday night of the same weekend. Obviously, Slive wasn't as hesitant to lay down the law.
