A new layer appears to have been added to UCF’s quest to gain national recognition – let alone a future spot in the College Football Playoff.

The UCF student newspaper Knight News recently launched a GoFundMe campaign in an effort to fund an investigation into elitism within the Southeastern Conference (SEC), as well as possible collusion between the SEC and the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.
The goal of Exposing InSECurity is to shine a spotlight on elitism that unfairly puts a program’s pedigree over performance on the field. We’ll do this by obtaining emails through freedom of information laws, and by asking tough questions of the controversial College Football Playoff corporation execs and others, along with other journalistic tactics. We will not be ignored. And we won’t back down.
Among the evidence in Knight News’ case is a series of emails between Missouri AD Jim Sterk and Florida athletics director Scott Stricklin of the CFP Selection Committee.
ā€œ[H]opeful you can take a look and share info with the committee,ā€ Sterk wrote.
ā€œThanks, Jim. I’m a big fan of your team. Will do my best,ā€ Stricklin replied.
UCF went 11-0 in the regular season before beating Memphis in The American Championship Game, bringing their winning streak to 25 games.

But that winning streak was snapped in a 40-32 loss to LSU in the Fiesta Bowl.

Several weeks ago, UCF turned down a deal for a 2-for-1 series against Florida, which would have given the Knights the kind of quality opponent that might justify a spot in the CFP despite not being in a Power 5 conference.

As of Sunday afternoon, the effort has raised $440 towards its $5,000 goal.

UCF site sets up GoFundMe to 'shine a spotlight on elitism' regarding SEC football teams

KnightNews.com, described as an 'independent, non-profit news source serving the University of Central Florida area, its students, alumni, staff and neighbors,' has set up a GoFundMe in order to 'shine a spotlight on elitism that unfairly puts a program's pedigree over performance on the field,' in regards to the Southeastern Conference's football teams.

The slogan is 'Exposing InSECurity.'

More from the mission of the GoFundMe:

The goal of Exposing InSECurity is to shine a spotlight on elitism that unfairly puts a program's pedigree over performance on the field. We'll do this by obtaining emails through freedom of information laws, and by asking tough questions of the controversial College Football Playoff corporation execs and others, along with other journalistic tactics. We will not be ignored. And we won't back down.
Knight News already uncovered "prime evidence" of "illegal" anticompetitive behavior between UF's voting member of the controversial College Football Playoff Selection Committee and a fellow SEC school, an attorney said.
This type of investigative journalism takes time and costs money. We had to hire a lawyer to negotiate with UF to release all the emails we requested -- and UF says it only released them as a courtesy, claiming it doesn't have to.
Exposing InSECurity will pick up where our investigation of UF left off. We will start by seeking out email evidence from every single SEC school. And we will make the evidence we uncover public. We believe this will help inform the national debate and the search for solutions -- and help bring a fair resolution -- when the public takes action, be that inside or outside of the courtroom.
The more resources we have, the more staff we can devote to Exposing InSECurity, and the more aggressive we can be in fighting for your right to know whether these powerful institutions are complying with antitrust laws, or behaving unfairly.
We're inviting you to help us to hold the powerful accountable by making a tax deductible donation to Knight News, Inc., a small, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, independent and autonomous from UCF. The donations must and will go to supporting our 501(c)(3) educational mission.
No donation is too small. Every gift makes a difference. Colleges often charge money to produce emails we request. So, even $1 could be the difference in uncovering more "prime evidence" in a potential antitrust lawsuit.
LSU, from the SEC, scored a 40-32 win over UCF in the Fiesta Bowl, snapping a 25-game winning streak on Jan, 1.

UCF, which plays in the American Athletic Conference along with the University of Cincinnati, gained a 34-27 win over SEC school Auburn in last season's Peach Bowl.

they opened a gofundme to get the money to be able to shine a spotlight on "sec elitism"?

how about they do some actual journalism and expose the whole rotten industry on their own? (he said, sarcastically) if you need help and use a gofundme account to raise the money (for what, i have NO idea), then no one is going to take you seriously. it's a school newspaper. why don't they ask the school for the money. and on that subject, what the hell do they need money, for? they work for a school newspaper. shouldn't the school be paying that bill?

in all honesty, they remind me of the kid who cries because he didn't get a participation trophy.

next time, do better and you may win and get a trophy.
