🏈 Tyler Eifert

If there's one guy on their offense that could really give us fits is Notre Dame's TE Tyler Eifert. He's 6'6", or something like that, and can run, jump and catch.

I'm sitting here watch some of the coverage of ESPN leading up to Monday's game, and was wondering who we would match up across from Eifert when we're in man coverage on defense. They split him out a good bit.

I'm thinking Clinton-Dix would be our best option...in most situations, atleast.

Thoughts?

IDK that one really worries me. I'm thinking Mosley may be given the job of spying on Goldson. Im thinking along with you about HaHa but when he splits out I would suggest Dee might draw that assignment.

Vinnie did pretty good against Georgia's TE until the very end when he let him get inside. I think he and Ha-Ha and maybe Lester might be cover him....Mosely will be the spy on containing Golson....God I just hope we don't get into those 3rd-and-12's or longer and they convert them consistently....Nothing infuriates me more than giving up a first down on 3rd-and-long.

I started worrying about him way back in
early December!

Oh, it's close and I should have noted that.

Scoring production throws the scale in Bama's direction. The ability to move the ball against our defense swings it theirs.

Cooper has a lot of success because defenses have to adjust to stop the run and we'll burn them when they do. UGA was a great example of that.

Eifert gives ND the ability to move the chains—IE: like I said earlier, moving the ball against our defense.

IF we add the RB into the equation it's twisting comparisons around to a degree it's almost impossible to judge. Bama uses our RB's out of the backfield. ND lines theirs up in the slot.

I have a feeling Tyler Eifert is going to give us a lot of problems.

Here's something I've noticed in this thread—semantics maybe.

When we are in man the vast majority of the time it's putting our corners in man. Eifert playing the furthest out isn't that likely.

He will get man coverage when he slips out of the backfield.

If it's a passing down and we're playing in nickel he'll draw CJ or whoever we have playing the Star position. Vinnie hasn't played Star that much since the first half of the A&M game. My guess would be Eifert will draw HaHa or Perry...but again, that comes down to personnel groupings.

To take advantage of a personnel grouping it's going to have to be an obvious passing down which will take Eifert into account. If they try to catch us off guard it'll have to be an audibled play. Quite frankly, I don't see Golson having enough experience reading our system of defense to be able to continually take that kind of advantage.

He's likely there best receiving weapon. There's no doubt about that.

Has Golson played against a 3-4 this year? I know he sees on every practice, but he hasn't seen the blitz schemes and the crazy disguises that we're going to throw at him yet. Might be something to consider.

I've watched some of their tape, Eifert literally is their only guy. I'm not saying the rest of them cannot have a breakout game and convert 3rd downs...But I'm just not seeing it, I don't want to use the word soft, because they block very well, but catching the ball, its almost like they're not as physical and aggressive about going up and getting the ball as our DB's.
