I will always appreciate what Mike brought to Tuscaloosa as a player. I also appreciate and certainly respect the situation he inherited when he took over the HC position.
But, calling him a leader and a strong person? No, sir. Players walked over him and his "rules" like they were a doormat. With the exception of his ability to keep his pants zipped in the athletic department offices I can't say he was any more of a leader than DuBose.
I will agree with you about this one. That's why with Coach Saban came in, the players found out real fast when they stood.
Nobody saying NS strong....but he was..maybe not tough enough .sure....but set rules...controlled....the situation that was outta control...
To compare him to Dubose....well thats a sin....
Dubose could control nothing....
Mike was a very good leader... remember this was his intro back to CF since the 80s...and dealing with kids instead of adults...
He did a hellva a job...that noone else wanted...
