Speaking at the Little Rock Touchdown Club...

"Every year I take my son Tucker to Peyton Manning's football camp. He and Eli and Archie have a camp - its in South Louisiana in the beginning of July, and they bring all these quarterbacks in..some pro's...Eli and Peyton come in, but they also have the top 7 or 8 college quarterbacks...and the quarterback from Texas was there, Bradford was there from Oklahoma...uh..the quarterback from Oklahoma State was there...there was a lot of very good college quarterbacks there to get a chance to get a chance to watch. Greg McElroy was there, the quarterback at Alabama and nobody has ever heard of him I think the only thing he has ever done was they tried to run up the score on us last year when I was at Auburn and he completed like a 40 yard touchdown pass, and uh, the receiver caught the pass and that his his highlight of the year. But just watching him handle himself at that camp, how he threw the ball and even how the other quarterbacks talked about him, I think he is going to be a very, very good quarterback, so I think that's not going to be a weak spot for Alabama. So if they don't have a weak spot there with losing John Parker Wilson, they're going to be a team to be reckoned with."

Tuberville also said that on paper, Alabama will be better in 2009 than they were in 2008.

edit...don't tell Lenny though :)

Still unwillingly to admit his DB was in press coverage, the QB read it, and the DB got beat.

I want to see the position move past being just a game manager. I hope to see a qb that will make big plays and command the offense on the field. Not just manage it. :a:

I loved that pass and am looking for more of the same this year. Downfield passing wasn't our strong point last year and it came back to bite us IMHO.

Does anyone know if that was out longest pass play last year? (ball in the air not those 7 yrd passes with a long run added on)

Getting stoked for this year RTR:hyper::hyper::hyper:

It really was a great pass! I can't wait to see more of it and spread all over the field. The Hokies are already stating that they will "pick off McElway". That cracks me up! I really want to see him ram it down their throats!

I believe Julio caught a couple deep balls. There's one I recally JP just threw up and Julio outjumped like 3 DB's or something to make the catch.

haha i still have to hear Auburn fans b*tch about that. 'we never tried to run the score up on yall'. lol good to see Ears is still bitter.

I guess the moral of the story is that Tubberville's hacks shouldn't have been playing press coverage in the 4th, down by 20+ and daring the quarterback to throw the ball.

Next time he'll know though. Assuming there is a next time and another job in Tubberville's future.

Tubby is just still ticked that the one time they actually had a chance to run up the score (in '05) we mounted somewhat of a comeback and ended up losing by 2 TD's or less. Can't remember the exact margin. Fans will tell you the score didn't matter; they got the win. Believe me, it mattered to Tubby that day. I heard it bugged him for years.

If you look at almost any Auburn game where they scored 40+ under Tubbs, they were still throwing the ball late in the game.

Here is Vandy 2003...

</pre>They were already up by 38 with under 5 minutes left when the drive started.

Here is probably the worst one...up by 41 going into the 4th and the starting Qb was still in. Granted it was against Spurrier, but he never ran up the score on Tubeville.

</pre>Pot, kettle...etc....except we weren't trying to run up the score. Had Saban wanted to, it could have been VERY ugly.
