Nick Saban discusses Tua Tagovailoa's ankle injury, plans for treatment


Yes, Jalen Hurts’s storybook moment was incredible for Alabama on Saturday night, but it was still alarming to see star QB Tua Tagovailoa go down with an ankle injury.

On Sunday, after the Crimson Tide were named the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff field, coach Nick Saban spoke with ESPN and updated Tagovailoa’s condition.

According to Saban, an MRI has already taken place, revealing a high ankle sprain. Saban said he expects Tagovailoa to be out for two weeks:

“We did an MRI this morning and it’s a high ankle sprain,” he said. “The way we’ve treated those here — and we think Dr. Andrews and Dr. Cain do a really good job with our players — is to scope those things and it helps the healing process. Most of the guys who have had this done, it’s a two-week deal. Hopefully by the time we start practicing again, Tua will be back on the field ready to go.”

Obviously, that’s pretty good news for the Tide, all things considered. That means Tagovailoa could be at 100 percent for the Playoff semifinal game against Oklahoma on Dec. 29.

This isn’t a sure thing, as ankle injuries can be tricky, but it’s looking like both quarterbacks will be healthy for the semifinal.

Jalen’s recovery has taken closer to a month Couple plays vs Aubarn, amazing last night but he still doesn’t appear 100% IMO.

Thankfully Tua’s game doesn’t require quite as much running, just mobility. Hopefully he heals more like CamRob.

Jalen had surgery on 10/21 and played on 11/17 I believe.
