šŸ“ Tua Tagovailoa, on the Mac Jones commitment

What does Tua Tagovailoa think of Alabama adding another QB commit?

Alabama flipped a commitment from four-star quarterback Mac Jones Tuesday evening, and the immediate question became how Crimson Tide quarterback pledge Tua Tagovailoa would react?

Tagovailoa could not be happier for Jones’ decision to become a part of the Alabama family now. As far as Tagovailoa’s commitment status to Alabama is concerned, he summed it up succinctly.

ā€œAlabama is my home for the next three to four years,ā€ Tagovailoa told SEC Country.

The decision to add another quarterback to the 2017 class did not come as a surprise to Tagovailoa. Before he committed, the nation’s No. 2 dual-threat quarterback was notified that Alabama would be taking two this class. With that being said, Tagovailoa isn’t worried about competition with any other quarterback.

ā€œI’m not too worried about playing time,ā€ Tagovailoa said. ā€œYou’re always going to have to compete for your spot. I don’t see myself at any other school.ā€

Tagovailoa, who committed last month, said he had a chance to congratulate Jones on his decision before he went public with his commitment. The two had a chance to participate in the Elite 11 competition this past weekend in Los Angeles.

He was impressed with not only the football player, but the person.

ā€œ(Jones is) a great guy and has a great family,ā€ Tagovailoa said. ā€œThey’re awesome people. I support his decision 100 percent. Other people could be very negative about it. This is just all what Alabama does with the recruiting process.ā€

The Hawaiian star is on Alabama’s campus this week for the team’s summer camp and he has been in the ears of top wide receiver targets Devonta Smith (five-star, Amite, La.), Nico Collins (four-star, Pinson, Ala.) and Henry Ruggs III (four-star, Montgomery, Ala.).

Tagovailoa fell in love with Alabama before deciding that he was going to leave his home in Honolulu and attend a school 4,000 miles away. Just because there’s another guy at his position committed, don’t expect him to abruptly rethink his decision. He understands Nick Saban’s process.

ā€œI totally understand what Coach (Lane) Kiffin and Coach Saban are doing here,ā€ Tagovailoa said. ā€œAs far as that’s said, I am still committed and nothing has changed or going wrong with this trip. I still feel the same way when I first walked onto campus when I wasn’t committed to now being committed.ā€

To add to that point, Tagovailoa raised some eyebrows when he retweeted a Southern California fan telling him to become a Trojan. Tagovailoa said that he usually just retweets whatever he’s tagged in, and Crimson Tide fans have nothing to worry about.

ā€œIf anyone is getting anything wrong out of that, that’s up to them,ā€ Tagovailoa said. ā€œIf they think that I’m just going to go back to liking other schools, I feel like that’s kind of silly.ā€

I found treating recruiting just like national championships cools the jets. But if Tagovailoa continues to actively recruit hard for Bama, that's one of the better signs of a real commitment. Hope he comes, I love watching left-handed QBs sling it.

GREAT NEWS.

This appears to be a kid that gets it. I really like that the staff was up front with him early on... Clearly paying dividends now.

This approach to QB recruiting is awesome IMO. Sign a super athletic QB and sign a pro style QB each class. Both of these kids have a ton of potential... Tua has all the tools to special. RTR
