It's the best play from their playbook, but, unlike 2020, the republicans have been proactive instead of reactive. Hard to sneak a cookie out of the cookie jar when a cookie jar watcher is staring at you the whole time. The R's evolved, thankfully, and it may have saved their ass, or maybe Trump would win anyway... but the fact they actually learned from their mistakes for once is encouraging.
