That was because he actually had a QB coach in Dan Enos that helped him learn not to bail to his right and take off running.
While we're on the subject of QB's, I just watched a good bit of Keelon Russells film..... kid is really good, one of the plays that stood out to me was one where he rolled out because his line had gotten beat pretty badly, a defender is able to get to him, and while in the process of getting tackled, Russell proceeds to throw an absolute piss missile to one of his receivers. QB's isnt my forte, but what this kid displayed on that play in terms of arm strength, and accuracy.... was NFL caliber.

I expect Ty Simpson to be the starter, but this kid is going to push for that starting job. Simpson better be on his A-game everyday. And speaking of this as well, wanna know your thoughts on the impending QB battle. You know more about this position than I do, would you give Simpson the edge as of now since he's already been a year into this system, or does this Russell kid have a legit shot at taking the job year 1?

Did you know Ryan Williams was only 17?

No one mentions that when it comes to Austin Mack. Let's not forget, he reclassified and joined UW in what was supposed to be his senior season. This will mark his third spring camp in DeBoer's system, the beginning of his third season under this staff.

How is a guy like Russell going to compete for the starting job when he's looking up, at the back-up, with his experience?

Logic spells three seasons for Russell as a back-up. This upcoming fall? Scout team QB.

Passing along what my Martin buddy told me. According to Ty’s dad, he’s had some large dollar offers from some power conference schools. I’m sure this isn’t news to anyone, but he also said the coaches want to run a different offense than what we ran this year, but ran this offense because of Milroe. But they’ve said they will not run that next year. Ty’s counting on that and hanging around until the spring and second window. And Milroe will not be back either way. We’ve all heard that on here already.
The staff has said they have/were going to install a quarter of the offense this season. So, there's three quarters of their "scheme" that hasn't been implemented.

"...want to run a different offense."

Both are true. Only one is "accurate."

If a staff is only running a quarter of its scheme, of course they'll want to run all of their scheme. Hence, it would be a different offense: same foundation.

I get your point about Mack, but I do not think he'll beat out either Simpson or Russell during spring and fall camp. Him having that experience may help him, but in the long run, I don't see him winning this job.

I still think Russell has a decent chance of winning this job, however..... what I think would need to happen for him to be the starter this season would be for the current starter(either Simpson or Mack) to start playing poorly early in the season, then Russell getting the nod to go in and play. He plays well, it's his job for the rest of the year. This scenario has has happened before, with Clemson when they had Trevor Lawrence and Kelly Bryant, or with our situation in 2016 with our QB's. Unless he just comes in and lights it up immediately, I see this as the only way he sees the field this season.

Hence my remark about running QBs and elite WRs. I was excited about Milroe’s potential last season with great RBs, good TEs, and what I thought would be a bruising OL. Now I’m excited about having QBs who will be looking to pass when they don’t hand it off and having new options at WR.

Same. Jayden Daniels was fun to watch tonight I will say. He really has grown since I used to watch him at Arizona State. He looks better than Lamar with way less talent.

Simpson and Mack have the edge. Russell will need some added weight in order to survive the physicality of college ball.

The competition is between Simpson and Mack. Loser of the spring camp will likely end up transferring in Spring or in December. Either way, Russell is probably going to be competing for a starting job as a sophomore or Jr.

For what it's worth, I actually think we'll see Simpson in the game at some point.

I can't see it either.

For us Old fogey’s who don’t have instagram. Can someone spare a screenshot?
For what it's worth, this isn't on my/our end here. I update our "media embedding software" several times a week to make sure I don't miss a small change. However, there isn't anything that can be done if a poster on Insta chooses for their posts not to be shared on other sites (in spite of software running to allow such."
