It’s been less than a month since Alabama’s basketball season ended with a thud in the NIT.

Things happened fast from there. Buyout negotiations with Avery Johnson began a day later. From there, five players entered the NCAA transfer portal, coaches came and went in a dizzying month of transition.

Now, 30 days after this upheaval began with the loss to Norfolk State, let’s take a look at all the moves surrounding the departure of Johnson and the addition of Nate Oats. There’s still the possibility of a few more moves but here is where things stand as of Friday morning:


Players out
-- Diante Wood: Entered transfer portal after missing all of freshman season with an ankle injury.

-- Daniel Giddens: Entered transfer portal after averaging 1.9 points a game last season.

-- Dazon Ingram: Entered transfer portal after starting 19 of 32 games and scoring 7.1 a game.

-- Donta Hall: Graduated

-- Riley Norris: Graduated

-- Avery Johnson Jr.: Graduated

-- Lawson Schaffer: Graduated

Player possibly out
-- Tevin Mack: Testing NBA draft stock but has not hired an agent. Was the team’s fourth-leading scorer averaging 9.0 points a game after transferring from Texas.

Players who were almost out
-- John Petty: Entered the NCAA transfer portal March 27, opted to stay at Alabama on April 2. Was the team’s third-leading scorer averaging 10.2 points a game.

-- Kira Lewis: Entered NCAA transfer portal March 26, opted to stay at Alabama on April 8. Was the team’s leading scorer averaging 13.5 points. Recently turned 18.

Players in
-- James Bolden: Graduate transfer from West Virginia. Averaged 12.2 points and started 12 games last season.

-- Juwan Gary: Four-star small forward ranked No. 74 overall by 247Sports. Signed during Avery Johnson tenure.

-- Jaylen Forbes: Four-star shooting guard ranked No. 88 overall by 247Sports. Signed during Avery Johnson tenure.

-- Jaden Shackelford: Four star shooting guard ranked No. 98 overall by 247Sports. Signed during Avery Johnson tenure.

Player committed
-- Raymond Hawkins: Three-star center ranked No. 176 overall by 247Sports. Was being recruited by Oats to Buffalo before coming to Alabama.

Coaches in
-- Bryan Hodgson: Spent the last four seasons at Buffalo and was known for his talent as a recruiter. The 32-year old from Western New York played at Fredonia State. Before college coaching, he founded the I-90 Elite AAU basketball team.

-- Charlie Henry: Most recently a coach for the Windy City Bulls of the G-League, Henry worked for Oats at Romulus High School outside Detroit early in his career. The 33-year old later worked as a staffer and assistant coach at Iowa State and then as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bulls under Fred Hoiberg.

Coach who stayed
-- Antoine Pettway: The former Crimson Tide star is a crucial link to the region. With a head coach and two assistants from Michigan/New York, the local ties of Pettway will play an important role in the recruiting realm. He also brings continuity from the last staff after nine seasons as an Alabama assistant under Mark Gottfried, Anthony Grant and Avery Johnson.
