🏈 Top 5 Alabama assistants

Howard Schnellenberger knocks some names off that list.

Perhaps we should make this best assistant coaches under Bryant, Stallings, Shula, etc.?

That's a good idea...Just anything to pass time.

Schnell came to mind as soon as I saw the title.

Just after him came another assistant coach we had...years earlier than Schnell but he went on to have a great career as a head coach. His last name was Bryant or something like that...

Here's my short list of Bama assistants:

1. Coach Bryant
2. Coach Stallings
3. Coach Schnellenberger
4. Mal Moore
and, if you're measuring their worth in contributing as a material assistant, and then later bringing crap programs into competitiveness, you have to consider:
5. Coach Dye

I left Oliver off the same reason i left Smart off - how much of a success is the coordinator when the HC is a defense guy with his fingerprints on the game plan? Perhaps unfair, but left me with enough of a question to leave off.

If this were a top 10 list, would Coach Cochran make that list? Because I think he deserves some major credit in Bama's run...because I am sure you guys remember the 4th quarter meltdowns prior to his hire.

When I think of a top list like this I tend to think of those that were more pure assistants rather than future coaches. If that were the case you'd have to put our current RB coach Burns on there.

Which brings up a different subject all together.

Rocky was a good S&C coach. But, his teams were soft in some areas like the offensive line. That wasn't due to anything he did, it was due to things the position coach did that were in direct conflict with what Rocky wanted to do.

Terry Jones was another victim of the coaching staff.
