šŸˆ Tony Brown--riddle me this..

confusing situation.
Understatement of the year.

PED's? That's shot out of the water, isn't it?
Amatuer status? That would apply to a walk-on (which is a loose definition of his role on the track team) as it would a scholarshipped player. So, if his amateurism was in doubt?

I suppose UA could have already received a response to the appeal. It's entirely possible what's been reported as an NCAA issue may not be correct. I've not paid close attention to Brown's situation—not worth it at this point, in my opinion. Has there been any official statement linking Brown to the NCAA? All I can recall is a report stating such, from 'sources,' from Tidesports staff.

From my understanding, if you're good to go in track you're good to go in football. I couldn't find Brown in the results from this weekend, though. He might be in there and I missed him.

My guess is that the NCAA hasn't ruled on his guilt/punishment.

If they haven't ruled on his situation, there wouldn't be an appeal submitted by UA (as reported by Tidesports.) What can you appeal if there's no decision? It's an appeal to a decision/ruling.

University of Alabama defensive back Tony Brown is facing an indefinite suspension from the NCAA, TideSports.com has learned.

The university has appealed and is awaiting a decision.
Let's look at it from another point of view. If the original report is true and his suspension is being appealed, if that appeal is denied, he's ineligible. So, if his team would have won their event this past weekend it would have to be forfeited for use of an ineligible player.

I can only think of two possible answers.

One, the report from Tidesports was wrong in the first place.

Or two, the appeal has already been resolved and he's regained/kept his eligibility.

(This would make sense IF he'd completed the restitution part of his punishment. BUT, Tidesports also said this wasn't a violation of team rules (the exact phrasing UA used when Ha-Ha took a loan from Corey Harris.) So, now we're back to square one. PED's is another ball of wax. )

BTW, the suspension was originally reported by Aaron Suttles. He's been very quiet this weekend on the Interwebs.

Something to consider: if an ineligible player is used in a football game, the team must vacate the win. That could cause the team to lose consideration for postseason activity.

If an ineligible athlete is used in a track meet, does the team lose any points gained by that athlete in the meet or do they lose the entire meet? Vacating any wins - event or meet - does not impact participation in postseason participation for the school.

Another thing to consider. Would the track program risk NCAA penalties ( loss of scholarships) by allowing an ineligible athlete to compete in any events at all? Why risk letting him run in anything at all unless you have an answer on his status.

This is where I can't find a clear answer.

Assuming he failed a drug test for Marijuana in a ncaa bowl game/playoff test, he'd be ineligible for the post season and up to half of the ensuing regular season.

I can't find anything that addresses multisport players for this scenario. Does the suspension apply to all sports? Does a half season equal a half season, meaning that he was ineligible for half a track season?

I'm certain that he is not participating if it is in any manner a rules violation. So, im left wondering if there is a loop hole considering his dual sport status... again, assuming it was a street drug violation.

I'm so confused on this situation.

I know this... If he gets his head right and is cleared to play this fall, he could be really special. All the physical tools to be an NFL DB. Would be a shame if he never got it together

I'm still clear as mud on the TB situation.
Stop splashing!!! We're all in the same puddle! :headscratch:

He came up in the last few days and the story was the appeal hadn't been ruled upon as of yet.

What I don't get is so many thinking "drug test," but when we saw Grier get busted for a dirty piss test he was suspended while the appeal process was ongoing.

There's something wrong/missing in the reports. It's entirely a shortcoming on my part but I'm having a really hard time caring a whole lot about what's going on with Brown. I certainly hope for the best, but at this stage of my life I tire quickly of drama.
