You know, IF Oklahoma beats Missouri and IF Pitt were to beat West Virginia, that would put Ohio State and Georgia in the national title game. Is there a rule in place that you can not play in the title game if you did not win your conf.? Seems like I remember something like that after Oklahoma played LSU even though they lost in the Big 12 Champ. game.

I don't know if there is a rule that says you can't be in the NC game is you don't win your conference...I think it's just that most pole voters don't think that you should be in the NC if you don't win your conference...although, I think Georgia is probably the best team in the SEC this year

There is not a rule in place that would stop this from happening, though I think there should be. It's been a controversy ever since Nebraska failed to make the Big 12 championship game in 2001, yet still played for the National Title. How can you be the third best team in your conference, but the second best in the country?

Not making the conference championship game doesn't automatically mean that you are the third best team in the conference. There are plenty of instances of the second place team in the West/East being much better than the first place team on the other side.

And right now, Georgia is playing as well as any team in the conference. Technically, they tied for the East, but lost the head to head with Tennessee for the tiebreaker. I would take Georgia in a rematch.

Questions to ask yourself on this topic.

Is Bama better than ut because they beat the fool out of them?

Is ut better than UGA because they beat the fool out of them?

Should Bama not have been NC in 1965 because they lost to UGA and were tied by ut?
